The Renaissance Club?

Anyone played it yet and if so how good is it? I have been told it's 2nd only behind Muirfield in East Lothian,is this accurate?

Got a game here in September,could be a fun week that week.... possibly Royal Aberdeen on the Sunday,Renaissance on the Monday,fly to Munich on the Tuesday for Oktoberfest,back home on the Saturday to spend Saturday night and Sunday watching Ryder Cup and rehab!!:cheers:

Ive not played, but our Pro ( Spike ) whom you know, has played, with one of the Local Footballers that has a membership, end of last year
Really enjoyed, and said at the time they had a bit of work to complete on 2 holes, and would be better again when done

Ive Played Archerfield Fidra, and driving in, must say, the Gates on Renaissance entrance are Very Imposing

Aye, I've played it a few times mate and love it.It's hard as nails (I'm a 17 handicap) and the greens really do undulate, but it's very enjoyable.Standout holes for me are 7,10 and 15, the first three holes are being replaced by three holes on land exchanged with Muirfield to the left of 11 & 12.Once those holes are finished, it will be better than anything in East Lothian.
In comparison to Muirfield, well, Muirfield has a mystique that few have, but it's the same turf and the club house (temp) at Renaissance is nice and chilled.
Renaissance is better than Archerfield if you've played there?

Forgot to mention, if you are not playing with a member, they'll ask you to take a caddy for the group...not to carry yer clubs, but to go down the fairway and make sure your balls are findable, the hand signals employed by said caddy to distinguish between lost and found balls are strange.
Another unique thing about Renaissance, the putting green is part of the 1st tee, never seen that anywhere else.

I have also played the Renaissance as well as Archerfield - many times. I would disagree with "AdiDassler", I think Archerfield is better. Don't get me wrong The Renaissance is a huge course, especially from the back, back tees. Definately set up for a Pro Tournament at some point. For me the Dirlton is magnificent and worth every moment you can spend on it. The Fidra is a close second.

For those who have not played any of the courses, make the time, find a way, they are all worth it - fabulous.

Muirfield is what it is, amazing and unique. Same part of the world, same weather, same soil as The Renaissance and Archerfield, just older and more settled, less American in design and more traditional.

Muirfield has changed over recent years to be more open and hospitable to guests, the Clubhouse is like a museum and the carvery lunch is the best in the world. Again, find a way - play it would be my advice.

Not a bad price considering it'll cost £60 all in for golf with food before and after the round.

I'm not being negative about Archerfield mate, I'm lucky enough to play it pretty much every fortnight, and I agree that Dirleton is better than Fidra, an opinion not held by many people, but I like the fact that Renaissance haven't moved much (if any) soil to create the course, whereas Archerfield have.
I'm not fussed by the overall Archerfield 'experience' either, I'm basing my opinion on the courses only.
Both are terrific venues though,on a stretch of courses to match anything anywhere else in the UK.

only got as far as the big gates wouldnt let rif raf like us in,did look very special though
