Having moved house at the start September, our old club isn't really practical in terms accessibility, especially for a quick 9 (40 mile round trip). Having looked at loads of clubs, online and off, made god knows how many phone calls the list got narrowed down to two; Based on a long list of criteria Vale of Leven beat the Gleddoch quite convincingly. So from next season that will be our new track.

I know it's also Taylormadephils course but wondered if any other forum members were there?

not there but played open comps a lot there in the distant past, I seem to remember excellent views, steep hills, sheep poo everywhere and overall not a bad track, which is why I played their open a few years on the trot.

Played it with tmPhil last year its a tough cookie mainly due the 20p sized greens. Nice track however I believe Phil is talking of moving on due to internal politics.

PM him before you commit.

You moved house THEN looked for a new club?

I know Bob, priorities all out of kilter or what?

Seriously though, still got four months of paid for membership at my old place which I would be daft to throw away even though the drive to Kilbirnie can be a pain at times as I'm sure Craw could testify, some of the winter greens are looking like Stevie Wonder sited them; additionally, the wife still has loads left to spend on her loyalty card.

I could do a pro rata for the rest of the year at VoL and spend two months looking from the clubhouse window and thinking how lovely the course looks under 3 foot of snow!

Stevie,
Glad to see you've chosen a new track, it's certainly closer than Kilbirnie for you. Couldn't agree more regarding your comments about 'winter greens', tried to play on saturday, but oh my god, i can only assume the greenstaff were on holiday when they were 'cut', lost 4 balls in three holes all in the middle of fairways (well close to middle honest), course needs some serious drainage work. If Donna doesn't manage down to spend her credit, i could always help spend it.;)

LOL, I'm sure you would mate. I'll probably use it to purchase my own bodyweight in sausage, egg and chips.

It's the winter green on the 12th that got me - bizarre placement

I'm sure that one came about after the greenkeeper had been to florida on holiday and was raving about ' Pirates cove crazy golf' course over there, or he's got a real wicked streak in him. Like yourself mate, i think it might be time to move on.

I've enjoyed my time there, no great complaints to be honest; at times this year the standard of the course has been superb. My only course moan was on the clubs forum and was about hole plugs standing too far proud of the putting surface - criticism was not well received!

Vale of Leven seems pretty good though, like the Place it doesn't seem to have any snootiness at all - definite bonus.

Just to let you know Stevie, The Vale are starting a promotion next week, where you can join now and not start paying your membership until 1st April 2012.. So free golf till April
