My Odyssey #5 centre shaft.Tried replacing it with a Scotty mallet, also centre shaft, but although it putted well it just didn't feel right. After a couple of months the #5 was back in the bag. Probably had it close on 10yrs and I can't see it ever being replaced.

Its always behaved, and this yr's putting stats continue to bear it out - putting ave 28.1

Always had blade putters myself, anything else just looks wrong to me. Never had one that felt as good or performed as well as my Scotty though

I keep telling myself I need to be using a blade. My Anser 2 is still a work of art and has a lovely feel but my stroke seemed to prefer a mallet hence the odyssey #9. Sadly I am missing a load of short ones with the #9 at the moment. Tempted to get the Ping out again but I want work through my slump. Hoping I just need time on the green. The Anser was the one and only putter I have kept through thin and thinner and it still gets regular appearances off the subs bench. It is a classic.

Which Anser 2 is it Homer? I've just bought one off Golfbidder, Anser 2 for £45. The plan is to take it to the local metal polishers and refurb it, fit it with a black out Ping grip and solve all my putting woes...or not.

Ping Derby.
Must first "proper" putter and first face balanced.
It was the main reason for getting me to single figures.
Sometimes see one on ebay and get tempted......

In the last two years I've had a long list of putters, milled & insert, mallet, half mallet and blade, center shafted you name it, from taylormade, ping, odyssey, rife and even a Scotty red x on loan.

After trying the ping I cradle it was confirmed that my putter was wrong and I needed a anser 2 style putter to suit a slight arch stroke. Not wanting to limit myself to ping I did some research and ended up with a vp1 milled Cleveland.

I've gone from no confidence to expecting to nail every putt from 8ft in, its the safest club in my bag in only an 8 week relationship - this will be in my bag for years!

I've experimented with a number of putters over the years, heel/toe, face balanced, mallet, blade, heavy, light, etc. as well as various lengths.

I have discovered that I prefer a more mallet-style, heavy, longer than shorter putter, and the thing that helped my realise that was the Oddyssey Marxman Mini, which I thought was 35", but turns out is nearer 36".

I went from being one of the worst putters of my friends to one of the best (JustOne and Pieman will be along in a minute to say how bad the others must be!), and it really was down to the change in putter. I switched from a Ping Zing 2 and the outcome was amazing.

Owing to the insert, I don't like soft golf balls, so when I use a pro v1, I struggle with the pace, but with the right ball, it's great.

Interesting - The Ping i-Cradle pretty much proved that I should not be using an anser style. Got no consistency with it and the face impact angle was different on each putt on each session.

With the Odyssey no 7 - the face impact is nearly always the same.

To add - I had a ping Anser isopur, so moving to the Odyssey no 7 was not as big a leap as others would make as it had a soft insert also.

The original Odyssey 2 ball. First time out and I had my first under par round using it. It was in my bag for 7 years until September this year when I replaced it with an Odyssey number 7. Used that for a couple of weeks but then had the grip changed. Whilst the number 7 was out of action I had to use my 2 ball, I had 7 birdies that day. Afterwards I decided that the Number 7 had been a waste of money.

First proper putter was a Ping Anser bought from Lillywhites in 1975 from memory. £18 which was a fortune in those days. Always had a blade, currently Odyssey No1, except for a brief flirtation with a mallet putter last year. Think I have only had four putters since I first started playing.

I had three different styles around me, and when fitted with the I cradle they were all wrong, slimline tour blade, del mar style mid mallet and a centre shafted half mallet.

The whole experience cost me less than 50.00 as I brought the I cradle used for a tenner, and snapped a brand new vp1 at 33.00 due to a listing error

I used to change putter 2 or 3 times a season, buying new putters, return to old ones etc. until 1999 (!)
Our then assistant pro handed me an Odyssey Dual Force 220 putter which I still use today although i experienced with mallet style putters I returned to my old faithful. what i like most about it is the rectangular shape that I find very easy to align and the insert that gives a great feedback. I once used a Scotty blade style putter which was the best piece of equipment I ever held in hand but the price tag (>700 EUR) was too hefty. I could have afforded it but I didn't think the benefit justified the price considering that I rate myself a very good putter already

Scotty Cameron - Napa, i'd had a Ray Cook blade in the same style but longed for a Napa but they were and are like gold dust. I managed to get one off a pro friend and i'll never, ever get rid of it. I seem to putt a lot more solidly with a blade than a mallet or anser style putter.

Went from an old blade to Odyssey 2 ball which was an improvement, to the Odyssey F7 (the upside down Starship Enterprise). That too was better, burt for me the biggest improvement has come from a switch back to a blade (see sig) and changing to a cack handed putting grip. No more silly pulled short putts.

Oddly, I prefer the simplicity of the Cook (Blue Goose 8). Or, better still the Bettinardi BB2! They are all rather beautiful, so it's a shame I'm a 'fugly Centre-shafted monster mallet' guy! Had a couple of attempts with the BB2 but kept flapping - and thinking 'too beautiful to use!'.

It has just arrived, the putter that will change my game (never said that before). An old Ping Anser 2, straight in the bag for Saturdays Stableford.
