The Open 2025.

I think they bought and redeveloped a couple of houses. They needed the upmarket accommodation for the visiting yanks.

Would like to see a bit of wind to make things interesting but not the lashing rain they had last time. Uncomfortable to watch.

Good to see we are already getting the "need the wind" point of view :ROFLMAO:

Don’t know about ‘need’ but links golf for us amateurs / handicappers / hackers is better with a one or two club wind than calm, so for the world’s best surely it’s more interesting viewing for them to have a two/three club wind?!🤷🏻‍♂️

Why is it better? Never understood this point of view.

In my opinion it’s better

If I wanted to shoot the lowest possible that my ability allows I would play golf exclusively off the red tees, on easy courses with no real penalties for missing the green, and with greens with little movement and with no fairway hazards — I most probably still wouldn’t ever break par, but it would get tiring / dull relatively quickly

A two/one club wind makes it more interesting as there is more to think about / factor in, in terms of how to play the shot and which club and shot to attempt. Not too strong to make it a slog or impossible, but natural conditions to consider. Well protected greens with bunkers and severe run-offs offer a challenge to be avoided and thought about

Agree, generally speaking coastal locations with no hills or trees for protection are naturally breezy places.
This is part of the challenge/ interest in playing golf there.

Anyone know if Callum Hill qualified.
Joint 3rd at Italian Open so should have got the 3rd place with a higher R2D standing [I believe]

Not according to Grok

There is no definitive evidence in the provided information that Calum Hill has qualified for The 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush in 2025. A post on X from
@ScotlandGolfW
on June 29, 2025, indicates that Calum Hill finished T3 at the Italian Open but "just missed out on one of the Open spots available." Another post from
@DempsterMartin
on the same date confirms this, stating that Hill narrowly missed out on a spot in the 153rd Open at Royal Portrush.
Additionally, the web results detailing Regional and Final Qualifying for The Open do not list Calum Hill among the qualifiers or notable participants. Given this information, it appears that Calum Hill has not qualified for The Open Championship in 2025.

Sooo looking forward to this. Honestly I don't really care whether it's rain or shine or wind or dead calm. The Open always gives me "the feels". Every year I say The Masters is my favorite major, but then after The Open I'm sure that's the one. Only thing is I'd quite like to see some more different courses in the Rota. I really think a heathland course would be a great addition, as it's pretty genre defining for golf in the UK. And I am thinking specifically about Sunningdale and Walton Heath. Just my opinion, not trying to start an argument!

I'm really excited about this too. The Open is my second favorite major. My son, son-in-law and I were at St. Andrews three years ago for the 150th. We played Carnoustie and Kingsbarns and attended the tournament on Friday and Monday. It was the greatest golf experience of my life and completed the Fan Grand Slam for all three of us. Also, I think it's wonderful that Northern Ireland has been added to the rotation.

Just entered the ballot for 2026 - after doing Troon last year it would be pretty nice to get tickets for the nearest host course.

Only problem is I'll need about a grand to pay for the tickets I requested. 😂

2nd favourite major, the best by miles for me.
