The Masters 2026

Rory shoots 73
I was hoping for a rather care free 70.
Wasn't being greedy.
But wow, that wasn't care free, that was tough, stressful, and that was just for me at home in my armchair sipping ice cold Peroni, so god knows how it felt for Rory 😂

It’s obvious Rory’s caddie has very little imput as surely after the 1st 9 in the trees a conversation might have been had. ‘Listen governor the big boy not working. Let’s drop down a club, for 2 or 3, see if we can keep it in play and let’s reset. If we can walk off 18 2 or 3 up it will give us a start tomorrow’.
Yesterday had Tin Cup sort of mentality. I can do this. Sorry Rory but only yourself to blame for that.

At least McIlroy waited until Round 3 to have his dodgy round, whilst having his good ones round 1 and 2.

Makes it much more interesting than his usual tactic of ruling himself out of contention early on, and then having a great weekend round when there is no chance he'll ever win :ROFLMAO:

Goodness knows what will happen tonight. Will his confidence be shot to pieces, or will he regroup? Will the others play with more stress, now that they have actually given themselves a great chance? Will Scheffler charge to the front?

It wasn’t just his driver that was the issue. He was within wedge range 2-3 times and hit very poor shots. Also hit some poor irons, on the 12th tee for example. He just looked a bit rattled, maybe he saw how quickly the 6 shot lead was cut in half and had a wobble.

Hopefully that’s his bad round out of the way and that he plays well later. It’s set up for a good final day anyway!

I think the pressure with the wedges was the result he couldn’t trust the driver and so the wedges were make or break and it took its toll a few times

I think he got a serious case of the pulls. Butch Harmen commented on it numerous times and explained what was causing it.

Surely everyone here has faced this situation before. You play a couple of holes, and everything is fine; then out of the blue, you pull it again and again. You try to fix it on the course but can't, and you just make things worse. The difference is that while I'm playing for a pound, he is playing for a green jacket in front of the whole world.

I'm giving him credit for hanging on in there and finishing at the top of the leaderboard, and I'm hoping that he sorts himself out before the 4th round and gives us a show.

He doesn't have to win for me; I quite like Cam Young. Just do himself proud.

One thing I noticed yesterday that I hadn’t thought about before was that although there are a lot of trees they all seem to be spaced apart and are not very dense.
You never saw anyone stuck behind a tree having to play sideways or backwards.
There was always a shot towards the green with the only problem that they had to keep it low.
It didn’t actually seem that penal to go into the tress especially for the best players in the world.

This exactly. With his length he can afford to hit 3 wood and be more accurate. It was painful to watch , him not seeming to realise his need to rein back.
He had 89 yds , and his swing still looked 100%. Result suggested that.
Time for the unthinkable? Leave driver out the bag for the last round?

Surely the manufacturer tour trucks are there - can they not help Rory by adjusting that driver somehow to compensate his current swing issue?

Yes, if his swing returns it would go against him, but he does have a 3 wood in case.

Having played out of his skin (at least score wise) the first 2 days he probably thought there was no need to change anything.
Be interesting how he approaches today’s round.
One thing for sure is before the tournament if you offered him joint leader after the 3rd round he would have bit your hand off.

Having been 90th out of the 91 starters in fairways hit during his first two rounds I would like to think he knew there was a problem which needed attention. I had no idea until yesterday that he had been quite that wayward from the tee.

There’s no way, with the quality in the chasing pack, he could hope to play like that for four days and win at a canter. He may still pull it off, but yesterday was a really tough watch when virtually the entire chasing pack were in red figures.

Just a case of Bryson last year where the notably bad stat catches up with you

Hopefully he digs in but wouldn’t be shocked if he disappears quickly from the coverage early like 2018

Although he missed fairways I wonder how many greens he hit in regulation still though?
He probably thought I got a six shot lead and I can’t play any worse off the tee.
Maybe he should of gone to irons but would he still of been able to birdie 14&15?

Hmmmm. I think even he must have realised his luck would have to run out eventually. You can’t scramble for 72 holes and win a Major.
