I thought he was just so frustrated with Bryson, he couldn't get his head around how he could keep putting himself in these brilliant positions then messing up so badly by trying to "thrash at his irons". I'm betting Faldo was thinking to himself "I'd win by 5 from the positions he's putting himself into".

He's also has to turn every comment into something about himself, I'm beginning to wonder if he's a narcissist.
 
I've warmed to Bryson over the last few years, he has always been a lot more than a big hitter, even during so called 'bomb and gouge' experiment his short game was excellent', it was for 3 rounds at The Masters as well. But, it's nigh on impossible to rely so heavily on recovery shots at Augusta, that course will find you out in the end.

For such a technician of the game it was surprising that he couldn't find a way to get his irons to work. Faldo's comment about him not having the ability to fix it I took to mean he couldn't find a way during the tournament, so I didn't think that particular comment had any malice. Bryson described the issues he has had with pulling irons in his post round comments......what hope for us lot hey!

I was so pleased for Rory, what a final round watch that was! I was on a real rollercoaster of emotions and was driving Mrs Whereditgo mad with my antics. I hope that frees Rory up to go on and win many more majors, the only slight dampener was that it was Rose that he beat, had Rose not had a bad day on the greens on Saturday it could well have been a different story.

Yes, the funding is based on medals. I just used that as a factual example for a reply to Ori’s throw away comment that nobody cares about cycling. Cycling is extremely popular, I’d expect most people to appreciate that and I say that as someone who isn’t really into cycling.

I’ve been a beneficiary of the funding as an ex pro in my younger years in a niche sport so appreciate that it’s a bit skewed.

I tend to agree with you , Faldo could not understand why at the elite level these golfers are at why Bryson wouldnt swing with a better tempo rather than trying to smash everthing.

Faldo wasn’t impressed with Bryson and wasn’t afraid to express his opinion, I understand why some thought he overstepped the mark but for me I thought it was refreshing to hear a golf pundit give a honest opinion.

ANd to be fair to Faldo it isn't the first time he has called it as he has seen it on major coverage. I like him for that

I was joking, and of course when I say nobody cares about something I mean that I don't care about it - I thought we were all familiar with my lexicon by now. 😛

But unjokingly, it does seem like people care a whole heap more about cycling all of a sudden when the Olympics is on, and not very much outside of that. Also true of golf and majors, but at least that's four times in one year rather than one time in four years.

I think a lot of people care about cycling when the Tour de France is on which is more often than the Olympics. You also just need to see the crowds over 19 days of racing, similar when the Giro and Vuelta are on but not as much international coverage.
There were 3.5 million people watching in person when ithe Tour started in the UK a few years ago (it will do so again in 2027). It not just about the velodrome every four years.

I'm equally confused. Might not say Blighty mind. COME ON GB. Yep that's more like it. Is it allowed to shout COME ON EUROPE in The Ryder Cup or is that silly flag waving too? Just trying to figure out where the line is drawn in supporting one's nation. Maybe COME ON CITY is also silly flag waving? Who knows. It's adding to my insecurity wondering about it though...

Not saying there's a right or wrong answer here, but I always feel more English than British. Hence I've never considered McIlroy, or Andy Murray for example a 'home' player as such - I feel no national connection to them. McIlroy isn't even British, he's UK - so you would say you consider your nationality to be United Kingdomish if you feel a kinship with him? I don't know if it's a generational thing either.

This is an interesting point. When I'm watching the RC, then yes, they are all part of the home team and I support them. The rest of the time I feel like all of Europe hates England anyway and I feel no connection to any of them.

McIlroy IS British.

As am I, that is what it says on my passport anyway
