The Luck thread:

Ray Taylor is the "luckiest" golfer I have ever met. I can guarantee that if he oinks one off the tee and it is doomed, he will hit a tree (or something else) and end up right in the middle of the fairway.
He won a nearest the pin competition once at Chartham Park with a thinned 9 iron that never got more than a foot off the deck, hit a rake and bounced up to "gimme" distance.
Playing with him at Royal Cinque Ports once, long par 3 he hooked his first ball miles left. Deep clag, and a definite "no finder". Put another ball down, thinned a 4 iron this time and it rolled for what seemed like ages, across the green and went in for a 3. He was getting a shot too.
Played the 3rd at Crowborough, short par 3 which had a cross bunker in front of it a few years back. He fecked up his first attempt to get out, thinned his next which hit the bank in front, bounced a mile up in the air and plopped in for another three. If he hadn't hit the bank the ball would have gone 100 yards into the trees behind the green. I could go on but I think you get the picture.
Me on the other hand, if all four of us carved our balls out to the right, mine would be the one up against a tree trunk with no shot. The other three would be sitting out with shots. Guaranteed.

Luck happens all the time on the golf course.

Lucky or unlucky bounces off of trees, bunkers etc.

I had some bad luck when I hit the flagstick full on from 150 yards on a par 3 and the ball ended up 30 feet away and only made par. 2 feet lower and a possible ace but ended up with 3.

Hi Guys,
Now it's all good banter but I suspect that low handicappers never talk about it where as higher handicappers use is as a crutch.

Interested to hear about your comps and how many other folk play/ bemoan their luck?

Well im on a pair of Crutches at the moment so i wouldn't say Luck played a part with me......More like lack of it :):):)
I tend to agree that you will have certain shots that you get a rub of the green on....Probably more so with handicap golfers but i would go so far as to say everyone gets it at some stage.......Look at the Pro's......That lot are constantly getting breaks with shots.

Smiffy thats after giving me a good laugh pal.......Priceless :):)

Surely it evens out in the end. The bad bounce into trouble offset by the ricochet that stops it going OB. I try (not always very well) to put it out of my mind and just it it from wherever it ends up and not worry about how it got there
