The Joy of Matchplay

Playing for the scratch team last night, my game had one of those classic matchplay holes. Thought I'd share.....

15th hole, par 5 but reachable in 2, I'm 1 up.

We both hit decent but not the longest drives, I'm in the semi-rough, opponent on the fairway.

Me to play - three wood - not the best strike but a nice draw on it and it chases up on the green and looks close - good eagle chance, stick on birdie.

Opponent hits a fairway wood and nails it right at the pin, also on the green but looks slightly further away.

Get to the green, opponent has about 12 feet, uphill. I've got six feet fast downhill.

She rattles her putt right in the middle of the hole.

I barely touch mine, slight left to right break and it rolls down and in.

Hole halved with two eagles after advantage swinging first to me and then to her! Brilliant!

Played a nice par4 last month and hit my approach stone dead for a gimme birdie, opponent holes a 5-iron for eagle from 190yds :angry:

Ever had to have a Hole-in-One for a half..?

A few years back, giving 18 shots, my Oppo plays first on a 150 yard par 3 and knocks it to 3 inches........

With a shot.........

Oh Good - that's a Hole-in-One for a half then......

YES!

Scratch team match last year my opponent only goes and holes her tee shot at the third. Didn't get a half, strangely enough, but did go on the win the match including chipping in later in the round to win a hole I looked like losing.

I hate Matchplay......

no - but I will admit to some ribbing when playing with the Club Captain in a 4BBB match; he holes his tee shot at a par 3 and I 'bother to' play a shot (and no I didn't have a shot!)

Can't remember how near I got but it was in birdie range - just not good enough on the day...

Like I said - I hate Matchplay..
