I think it’s when you see players like that. They stand out a mile. I once saw Utd batter City at Maine rd ( again). Whilst warming up. Veron and Beckham were knocking balls 60 yds across field to one another. The precision and first touch was astonishing.

The weird thing was neither of them had pace but always seemed to have time on the ball.
It’s like the game slowed down when they had it.
Cantona was a little bit similar.

Best I’ve ever seen live was Maradona the balls he could pluck out of the air were joke. However the best I’ve seen in the premier league were the 2 you mention they could take a ball coming at them at any speed and just make it do what they wanted instantly absolutely different class.
Let's go back in time, Hoddle, Molby, Zola, all wonderful touches. Widen the net and we are into Zidane, Platini, Pirlo, Iniesta etc. Quality all over.
What we should remember, the game is so much faster now. The time you have to take a ball is reduced before players are onto you. In the past the pace was so much more leisurely so the pressure on you was less. Class shows in every era though.

Yeah there will always be players that stand out
KDB the most recent when it comes to a first touch and ability to pass the ball with ease
I used to enjoy watching the Italian football on channel 4 in the 80’s. At that time it was technically better than the old first division.

I agree with Simon Stone’s comments.
If Carrick gets the job and it goes belly up, United get accused of not learning from Solskjaer’s tenure. If they don’t appoint Carrick and it goes belly up, they’re accused of trying to mend something which wasn’t broken. They are damned if they do, damned if they don’t.
I’ve made the point before, but we’ve had top managers, up and coming coaches and club legends in the top job since Fergie left. All ultimately failed. Give it to Carrick is my vote - he’s earned a contract.

I think if they give it to Carrick once the season is done, and it goes belly up, not too many will be vastly critical on their decision. After all, many ate now saying he should get it, and even those who said he shouldn't get it at the start, are now at least believing he will get it based on the results he has had
The criticism around Ole was that they got excited, and gave him the contract before the summer. Results then turned before season ended.
Ole and Carrick are two very different individuals as well.
I imagine Carrick is virtually nailed on now. I'm not sure there will be too many alternatives who'll be available anyway

Carrick should’ve been appointed by now, the longer they wait, the more there is doubt around him.
Utd need to planning for next season and discussing players with the manager.
He deserves the job and I honestly believe it would give the players and the fans a lift to put the doeculstion to bed.

I think Utd need to wait and then make a call at the end of the season. Look at which managers are available and which direction they want the playing style to go.
Carrick has done an amazing job but there's there's a huge difference between making common sense changes as a caretaker and actually implementing a style and seriously contending. You could argue Ole came in and was more impressive in both the attacking style and results in the CL.
It's going to be a difficult call but given a lack of top class managers on the market, it might be a wise move to give him a two year deal and make sure the signings all fit into the long term goal of the club. He might be the man for the next year or so but not the man to win the title. That's fine though as it will give the club time to rebuild further.
Would any Utd fans welcome Rashford back given Carrick will probably be able to get the best out of him? He's going to end up with near enough 20 goals for Barca despite being a squad player. He would be a huge upgrade on the left if it was the focused Rashford.

Utd paid £16m to terminate Amorins contract having nine months earlier paid £12m to terminate Ten Hag's.
They could bring someone else in with "a project" only to find they're no better.
Better sticking with Carrick,unfavourable comparisons with Ole are pointless. Besides I can't see anyone out there who could do a better job

As I’ve said I’d give Carrick the job and one of the main reasons is I don’t think there’s any manager in the world that could provide the playing style those in charge want and that’s because those in charge are clueless.
