World Cup matches will effectively be shown in quarters rather than halves as broadcasters seize on mandatory new breaks to show more TV adverts.

ITV appears increasingly likely to broadcast commercials during each half after being given a Fifa green light to exploit water breaks this summer.

The opportunity for TV companies to break with football tradition comes after three-minute breaks during each half were confirmed in December.

Just had a look at Spurs’ remaining league fixtures and, applying my Super 6 prowess, I reckon they are realistically looking at another 3-6 points maximum. And I’d err on the side of 3, with draws against Forest, Brighton and Wolves.

The rest look really tough fixtures. They are in big, big trouble.

I think your time allowance might be a little out.
The article I read this morning said ad's were only allowed after 20 seconds of a refs whistle, and had to be gone 30 seconds before play resumed.
The water breaks were seen as the target time.
They have used the ITV proceedure during this years 6 Nations as the way to do it.
Personally I hate the adverts during the rugby.

Wolves are our bogey team for some reason, we've hardly beaten them at all in the last 5 years, even when we were decent. And they've hit form. The only remaining game we might realistically win is Forest at home, but it looks like we can't beat anyone at the moment.

No VAR in the Championship though. 👍🏻

Will Spurs have relegation clauses in players contracts? I'm not sure they would have. Could be a heck of a fire sale to get the wage bill down
I would imagine they don't have clauses for that eventuality. They're a big team and would have been doing all their building and clauses toward European qualification etc, I can see a huge fire sale coming if they do go down but not many assets there currently advertising themselves to be sold for decent figures.

Any sensible well run club will have the clauses

So prob not 😁
Genuinely, do you think Liverpool, city, Utd, arsenal, Chelsea will do? Will you attract the top players and then add, oh if we go down then your salary drops by 40%. Relegation wouldn't have been in their thought process.

Maybe I'm wrong, I hope I am. I'm ambivalent about spurs but I don't want to see a total collapse

I read on BBC yesterday that every player has a 50% drop in wages if relegated.
Maybe it’s almost something automatic done with clubs who think they won’t go down with any new contracts.
I’m surprised with how Levy was with money it’s not 100%. 🤣
The players are not exactly putting themselves in the shop window either.
I reckon Maddison will get their player of the Year

I guess it’s not something you will think

None of them have really got close to it so I would guess they would haven’t clauses

But it also might be something generic every club has

I think if you are a club trying to sign "top" players, and those players are confident that they are Premier league standard, there could indeed be relegation clauses. But, not at the request of the club. At the request of the player. It means that if the worst happens and the club get relegated, they have the comfort in knowing the club will have to sell them if a bid comes in for a signficiantly lower value than would be accepted if they were still in the PL. So, random numbers, they may have a buy out clause of £80 million normally, but if club get relegated that drops to £20 million.

There is no way a player who thinks highly of himself is going to want to risk being kept at the club in the Championship, just because the club are in a position they don't have to sell him. And as others have said, if Spurs are trying to convince a high value player to come to their club instead of rivals, telling them they will need to add a relegation clause which puts them at risk of a significantly reduced salary seems nuts. If I was that player and his agent, I'd just choose another club if I could. I think the club could only put in such a clause to up and coming players, who haven't really made a big mark in the game to get noticed, and Spurs is their gateway to the PL. Or aging players, who are unlikely to get any more "big moves"

@Aztecs27 stories of Edu being asked to stay away from the ground. I can't imagine you'd be hostile to that. His arrival hasn't been positive, looking from the outside.
He's a very large part of the reason this whole season has been an absolute car crash, starting with him being the sole reason Nuno did what he did, so he will not be missed.

the performance on Wednesday, followed by this news, then Spurs losing last night in the manner they did...it's been a 48 hours filled with hope

Most of these contracts would have been signed under Levy - do you really think he would overlook a single eventuality? I imagine he'd have had relegation clauses in there by default.

If Spurs go down, who do you think will stay? Solanke, Tel, Odobert, Sarr, Danso, Kinsky and possibly Maddison are the only ones that may.
