If there is one referee that will always like to get involved it’s Paul Tierney- even more so when it’s VAR and he will spends ages finding something to cancel a goal or provide a red card

Taking over 5 mins to find a handball is a joke but that’s standard Tierney - there was no way there was any 100% proof that it was handball

If you’re talking about the Burnley match, you should of watched MOTD, they agreed about the handball, but the offside was definitely off.

But, we've already had this season, where even VAR has agree the player was offside, but because he was only 5cm offside we'll let it stand

In the offside, it was the shoulder, not the elbow (i.e. the shoulder is deemed part of the body an outfield player can use). Still feels really harsh though. Less so if those calls could be made almost instantly, so at least fans know the outcome. Otherwise, too many of us simply dont celebrate until the match kicks off again and goal been clarified.

Daylight, in my view, would make no difference. You can still only either be on or off. It would just move the debate as to whether there was a millimetre of daylight or not, or that someone's toenail closed up any daylight between players

Re offside, it wouldn’t be too hard to define “daylight”, as discernible to the naked eye. And looking at a video still that would be obvious to any fair minded person, I submit.

Mind you, if it is between what rules,VAR, etc that we have now…. And going back to 1960s refereeing, then I’d choose the latter

I binned any football with VAR 3 or 4 years ago as I didn’t like the micro management it was doing to the game. Toe nails off side, 3, 4, 5 minutes debating decisions by the same people who make the same mistakes when they are on the field. From what I read, see discussed and hear reactions, it seems in my personal opinion that the system in this country has not got any better in the years it has been in use. I did read that in a recent international tournament, can’t remember which one, that the way VAR was used was being applauded

Believe in an under 20 Tournament they trialled a few things ( challenges and time limits ) etc and all seemed to work better
