A lot of the yellow card for a booking for taking your shirt off came from that time Forlan spend ages trying to get his shirt back on

Can’t understand the big issue with it , a player scores a goal and celebrates and takes his shirt off - shouldn’t ever be a booking for me

There is a possible compromise for this. Providing a celebration doesn’t exceed X minutes, and there isn’t a t-shirt underneath with a message on it, crack on. But when does a celebration cross a line into ego & arrogance? Ronaldo does it regularly, showing off his 6-pack, as does Salah. There’s no law against ego & arrogance but it isn’t a good look.

It could be looked at on a case by case basis but that just puts refs in the firing line for using an opinion, which many fans will disagree with, as opposed to a black & white letter of the law application.

Equally, whilst there’s a rule/law for it, don’t be a Richard. Professionals know the laws and what not to do. The guy last night was an idiot. Personally, I hope the club fine him for it as he’s now made himself unavailable to play x matches.

They're professional footballers and pulling your shirt off and running around is not very professional. It's stupid. It really isn't a difficult thing to not do.

Oh he will be fined and he was silly

But I don’t see an issue with a player celebrating in anyway providing it doesn’t cause any harm or create any issues or delays time

We have seen managers and coaching staff running on to the pitch delaying things etc and that prob causes more issues

Someone scores a winner in a game then they may well go a bit mental and if that includes taking shirt off etc it’s not really offensive to anyone

I personally don't like the yellow card rule for it. Celebrations are a great part of the game and for me this sort of thing stifles the joy of the moment.

They were talking about it on the Peter Crouch Podcast last week and looked into why the rule was brought in. Apparently the wording states that it falls under "poor conduct" 🤷‍♂️and also there's issues about potential time wasting (like they're really strict about that in other areas of the game).

Believe there's also an element of shirt sponsors not being happy about it - which is probably the main reason!

It’s just a bit daft.
Why take your shirt off to celebrate?
Makes no sense to me.
Agree with this. It's a weird instinct to go to isn't it? I've never instinctively removed any item of clothing provoked by any kind of emotion. Like that time Sergio Garcia got angry and took his shoe off and threw it somewhere. 😂

He wasn't even 'showing off' since he had another shirt underneath on this occasion. Maybe he thought "sheesh, scoring that goal has made me really warm, I'd better take this outer shirt off for a minute to cool down".

On the issue of time wasting, especially by keepers taking goal kicks. The ref controls the clock and should, ideally, add the time on. But it’s not just about time, it can also break the rhythm of the game, something teams want to do if the opposition has momentum.

It’s a tough one, and sending someone off for a second yellow due to time wasting seems unduly harsh. But how else can it be dealt with? Maybe coming at it from a different perspective might change things. Why not just have the ref extend the match by 5 minutes for every obvious attempt to waste time?

Time wasting is a big one , every team does it at some point , they have a mini crack down , throw a few cards around and then it’s ignored

The time the ball is in play is poor

It’s one of the worst things in the sport they need to crack down on

Reverse decisions , stop the clock, independent time keeper etc

It's the point being made by many though. Silly or not, it's there. Players know it is there. Continuing to do this and then complaining about the rule afterwards, it's shouting at the clouds stuff.

The point was that some may think that a yellow card for a celebration is a bit silly in the grand scheme of things

Yes players know etc and no one is excusing players etc

Yes we know the rule is there but as with others there is surely no harm in discussing if the rule is silly etc

No different to discussions about golf rules etc

It’s a rule, and a soft yellow card…no problem with that.
If he hadn’t been a moron earlier in the half and knocked the ball away after the refs whistle he wouldn’t already have had a yellow card when he scored.
He won’t do it again, especially when he listens to what Slot said after the game.
The more I listen to Slot, the more he’s looking like a modern day Shankley, Clough or Ferguson.

Is it acceptable in other sports? I'm not sure how it would go down if golfers started pulling their shirts off to celebrate a birdie.
And as kids copy what they see their heroes doing, are you ok with shirtless goal celebrations in junior football?

Maybe we should get the RC team to run about with their shirts off for every holed putt and point on the board.

It’s a game of football if a grown man can’t celebrate without taking his shirt off the a he’s a complete prat! Nothing requires celebrating by removing items of clothing it’s ridiculous

Salah does it quite often, so I would not be too confident about it not happening again. Slot has not got through to him yet.

You would hope not, they were too highly avoidable yellows.

There have been plenty of instances in the RC etc where celebrations have gone mad

But what’s wrong with someone celebrating and going a bit mad with a key goal , it’s sport , entertainment- they aren’t robots

Why would it matter if a kid wants to celebrate that way , no different to them copying other celebrations 🤷‍♂️
