I know of one player who, when at Middlesbrough, always got Christmas week off by getting a red in the run up to Christmas. I dare say a number of players ‘organise’ leave by deliberately getting two yellows.
Was it Beckham or Ronaldo who did that one season? It was quite blatant but I can't quite remember who it was

Beckham got a deliberate yellow card for England so that his suspension was against a minor team in qualifying and he would be ok for the tournament

A lot of the yellow card for a booking for taking your shirt off came from that time Forlan spend ages trying to get his shirt back on
Can’t understand the big issue with it , a player scores a goal and celebrates and takes his shirt off - shouldn’t ever be a booking for me

I always thought it was also down to those who have political or advertising messages on the shirt underneath. (Although, if you simply lift the shirt without actually taking it off - you probably don't get the booking then? Unsure.)
But yeah I think it should be case by case. If it wastes too much, like Forlan, then go ahead and book them. If it doesn't waste any time and there's no political message on the shirt - just crack on with the game.
None of this excuses the idiotic players though who know it's a booking and do it anyway.

If someone has a political message then book them but over than that get on with it and let them celebrate
