So it’s Balon D’Or day

So which CL winner will win it this time ?

Dembele ?

Raphina and Yamal also some of the favourites

Salah doesn’t have a chance despite outperforming all those above
Believe Salah only scored 3 goals in the Champions league.
Went missing in some of the games.
The Balon D’or tends to go to someone who’s performed in the Champions league or messi or Ronaldo.

Did he out perform them! I wouldn’t say he did. He had an excellent season in the Premier league but did barely anything in big European games.

Dembele performed in France, performed for France, Won the CL and got to a Club World Cup final. Anyone could easily argue that’s a lot more than Salah did.

It’s always a closed shop anyway it’s lost its merit amongst most football fans anyway now.

Going by stats and that’s why it’s weighted towards the CL too much imo

Salah had 57 goals and assists last season in a tougher league than France

Dembele - 51
Yamal - 43
Raphina - 57

I disagree. The CL is pretty the much premier club competition in world football. The Premier league is just another league.

Yes it’s harder than France or Spain for its depth but it’s still just a league, the CL then adds another technical element and why it’s so high in its importance.

Salah is a great player but he’s not done it as much at the top table and that counts.

Consistency over a whole season in a league should be weighted more but they do just look at the CL , unless your name is Messi or Ronaldo - 2019 showed that when neither won the CL and still got the award

But for the best players at the best clubs in the Prem, they play against very average teams for most of the season. For those playing in the CL it’s players from the best teams in Europe every match…

With all due respect imo that’s Absolute rubbish and only ever mentioned by fans when their player misses out.

Consistency in a league against teams like Southampton, West Ham(other poor teams are available) where only 3 teams realistically could challenge Liverpool should never be weighted against the ability to perform in Europe’s elite level competition where your playing great teams like PSG, Bayern, Real, Barca etc is a much bigger competition and much more technical skill and acumen is needed rather than he ability to out run and bully poor defences.

Messi and Ronaldo are footballing freaks and have to be at their most average to come down the level of Salah and other players. People may not like that but either of those at their peak Salah, Henry and others cannot touch.

It’s also why I’ve said previously Balon D’Or isn’t anything that peaks most avid fans interest and is more now for the casual fan to wonder at. On that I’m out as we won’t agree on this topic.

A perfect example is the season we won the CL and it was given to Messi instead of VVD who was superb that season - we beat the likes of Bayern , Barcelona on the way to winning it

And he wasn’t at his peak then but they had started that lazy period of just giving it to them

Hence why it’s not being just about the CL in previous years.

Hence why I said most fans don’t care about it anymore but there’s also irony in a Liverpool fan moaning Salah doesn’t get it this year when he doesn’t deserve and moaning VVD didn’t get it over Messi 🤣

I wasn’t gonna reply again but I couldn’t resist after that comment. 😏

I don’t think he “deserves” it as such because I think Vitinha actually was prob the best player for PSG or someone like Marquinhos who were key

But there is no doubt that Mo’s name should be up there alongside the likes of Lamal and Raphina but if he did win it wouldn’t be a travesty

Who said his name shouldn’t be up there? 🤷‍♂️
The point is he didn’t really perform in the big CL games.

I don't think there's any real outstanding player from last season. A lot who had very good seasons but a huge step down from the Messi and Ronaldo era.

Salah was a beast stat wise but he really dropped off towards the final third of the season. I have a feeling Dembele will win it, partly due to him being French and it being probably his only chance. He's had such an injury ravaged career I can't see him putting together a season like that again. Yamal will win it many times in the future.

Very proud to see Olise finish 30th, you've got to think he'll be in the Top 10 next season, especially as he'll star for France at The World Cup.

Olise will have a great season next season after taking Salahs spot in the Liverpool team 😁

He would be a great signing but I don't think Bayern would sell for less than £150m 😅 I believe we've still got a 10-15% sell on plus 5% Solidarity Payment. I really hope he makes a big money move back to the PL as it will net us a small fortune.

His ability was never in doubt but it looked like he had injury issues which would stop him reaching his true potential. Thankfully he looks to have shaken those off at Bayern and gone to another level.

Do you remember an ex Liverpool player called Ejaria?

Yeah Ejaria looked like he would end up being the solid EFL player he was

The next season will be the big one for Olise - Musilia out for the season so everyone will be looking to him , interesting to see how Diaz does compared to him

Ejaria was better than Olise on the ball, just lacked pace and the powerful shot Olise had. Such a wasted talent and a shame that season we had both at their best was 20/21 when there was hardly any crowds allowed due to Covid.

England had the chance of having both Musiala and Olise but let both go. Madness!

Diaz will do well there, Olise has something extra though. His left foot is up there with Messi, RVP and Robben.
