I think it's one of those rules that needs updating. Years ago the top clubs wouldn't have been resting their whole side for the League Cup so the suspension would've made a little more sense. Nowadays it's all about the Prem and the money that brings, so a Prem red card should mean a Prem suspension in my opinion. He effectively gets away without any suspension at all here.

It could work the other way as well - someone gets a yellow card or red card in a cup and then suspension carries over to the league - if just cup then that suspension would carry over until the next season if they get knocked out

But can understand how it looks strange

There's another side to as well - can't remember if this has occurred, but if you got a red in a Prem game before a League Cup final are you out of the final? That seems harsh. Maybe cup suspensions should just be for cups, but League & FA Cup are included together.

Anthony Gordon got sent off in the league last year and was suspended for the league cup final.
The year before the same happened to Nick Pope.

So either yes a sending off in the league carries over to the cup or it’s just a rule for Newcastle players

Yep that’s happened before I believe and it’s something that the players need to be aware off

I think it is a case of "it's just the way the cookie crumbles"

You can look at the pros and cons either way. For example, if you get a red card in the league for headbutting someone, but you were allowed to play in the next game in a cup (perhaps the cup final or semi), there could be outrage by opposition fans.

And even if league red cards only applied to the league, there'll still be plenty of times the suspension will mean little. For example, if a bit part player gets a red card, but unlikely to play in the next game or two. Or if the player ends up getting themselves injured in the challenge or next training session, and would not have been able to play anyway.

Note, I believe he also has to pay the standard FA £35 fine for such a red card incident, that that will hurt his finances :ROFLMAO:

He can appeal on the basis of being unemployed though.
Anyone who has watched him play couldn’t disagree.
Might be able to pay it off 50p a week

They don't carry over into Europe though do they? If you're sent off the Champs League semi-final and your team loses, wouldn't you be suspended for your next group game the following year or whenever you're next in the competition?

In our Sunday league it's a £55 fine for a red card. Surely Premier League player doesn't get a discount?? 😂

As I said, just the way the cookie crumbles. You get a red card last league game of season, and then move to another league in Europe, I guess you also "get away with it"

In terms of fines, I only Googles the FA's fine list. It's a £55 fine for violent conduct red cards. But a red card for denying a goal scoring opportunity gets a £35 fine

Interestingly, a red card for spitting gets you a 6 game ban. A red card for biting gets you a 3 game ban. Spitting is placed on its own, and gets a bigger punishment than any other kind of offence.

Interesting debate, that. Would you rather be spat at or bitten? If the spit landed on my clothes and not my skin, I'd choose that. If it's in the face though - tough decision.

Europe is governed by UEFA , came if someone was banned internationally

England are governed by the FA

Players are god awful. Not at it at all.

Remove Rogers from any fantasy teams etc, blokes absolutely god awful at present.

Ollie cant score without service and the service is non-existent!
