Nunez is a strange one , I liked him as well and he scored some big goals for us over his time at the club , goal output not fantastic

15 in his first season with 5 assists

Second season was his best with 18 goals and 15 assists

And last season was his worst with 7 and 7

But was a bench player

Had a lot of raw ability and scored some great goals but didn’t justify that price tag

Paying £64mil for him and getting £45mil isn’t the worst

Certainly don’t see him as a flop but missed too many chances

He was the perfect example of giving a manager too much say - until then everything was down to Edwards and Ward - seems the “data” team wanted Isak ( at the time ) and Klopp wanted Nunez
25 premier league goals in 3 seasons for nunez.
Given his price tag I’d say that makes him a flop.

I wouldn’t say 20 goals would be a flop.
But looking at Nunez’s numbers he was definitely a flop imo.
Even if you try & make his numbers look better,he’s still a flop😆
Especially if you consider he played in a team that scored 340 goals in total over 3 seasons. It isn't like he has lack of chances as a mitigating factor

Have paid £2.49 to Amazon so I can watch Slovakia v Germany and see our new striker in action for the first time since the U-21's tournament earlier in the summer.

Gamble number 1 has paid off....Woltemade is in the starting line up.

Gushing updates to follow...
  • Officials are from the Netherlands...Germany havent a chance.
  • Wirtz is also playing
  • 11 seconds on the clock and Woltemade commits a foul.
  • 1min 20 seconds...Slovakia should be in front, wicked cross evades two blue shirted strikers inside the 6 yard box after a Woltemade clearance at the near post.
  • commentator puts the kiss of death on the game by saying that Germany have won 24 of their last 25 world cup qualifiers and their last draw was years ago.
  • 18 mins...Germany have the ball wide right....3 Germans in the box and 8 Slovakians. Cagey start, Germany dominating possession without creating anything, Slovakia looking lively and fast and direct in attack.
  • 21 mins...Slovakia carve Germany open but the keeper makes a good stop at the back post.
  • 22 mins...Germany awarded a free kick after a double touch from the Slovakian corner taker who hit the post with the corner and it rebounded directly back to him...dont see that happen very often.
  • 23 mins...German keeper makes another save
  • 24 mins... first shot in anger from Germany...solid save from the Slovakian keeper
  • 27 mins...Germany all at sea at the back and a third good Slovak chance is blocked by a defenders heel
  • 31 mins...and a chance for Woltemade but he heads over from the edge of the 6yd box
  • 32 mins...Wirtz shows good trickery on the edge of the box and gets a shot away from the middle of the box which Dubravka gets down well to his right to save. Is a German goal coming?
  • 41 mins...another sweepeing move down the left from Slovakia and the cross just evades the man at the back post
  • 42 mins...GOOOOAAL....totally deserved for Slovakia as they rip through the German defence, Rudiger goes missing, loses his man inside the box, leaving a simple finish low into the corner.
  • H-T...1-0 to Slovakia, thoroughly deserved against a German team that lacks any sort of coherence and simply cant cope with the high intensity of the Slovaks who are infinitely better organized.
  • 2nd half kicks off...Germany make a defensive change taking off their right back who the Slovak left winger has had on toast for most of the first half
  • 47 mins...Germany should be level but Dubravka makes a fine save at close range. Germany trying to play with more urgency but the Slovak press is still intense
  • 53 mins...a half chance for Woltemdade but he cant direct his header on target
  • 54 mins...Slovakia still threaten but a shot from the edge of the box is straight at the keeper
  • 55 mins...GOOOOOAL....brilliant second goal for Slovakia as Rudiger (who has had an absolute mare) is turned inside out on the left corner of the box and Strelec cuts inside and curls a lovely finish inside the far post....ooohh hint of handball by the striker but VAR (if it is in operation) isnt interested.
  • 65 mins...a cheeky attempt by Germany to curl a free kick round the wall at the near post but it never looked like being on target. Germany utterly dysfunctional as a team....perhaps only Wirtz has shown any flashes of quality so far.
  • 71 mins...a clear sight of goal from Germany but the shot from the edge of the box is scuffed wide via a deflection
  • 90 mins...5 additional minutes....this German side could play until Christmas and not score
  • 92 mins...a half chance for Germany is side footed wide from the middle of the box
  • 94 mins...Dubravka tips over a sliced clearance following a German cross
  • F-T...Slovakia 2 Germany 0....a thoroughly deserved victory against possibly the worst German side since the bunch that didn't make it out of the group stages at the 2018 World Cup. Northern Ireland have a real chance on sunday of nicking something.

Stevenage's Reid puts N Ireland 1 nil up.

When did England last select a player from Stevenage?

One reason is the impressive number of famous footballers from Stevenage who have gone on to achieve success in the football world. Not his best night?

Not his best night?
Would be wrong to single him out as the entire German side were dreadful. Wirtz showed a bit of life but Rudiger was absolutely awful....everyone esle was somewhere in between.

Woltemade showed some good touches and hinted at his link up play, but in truth was really kept in check and well marshalled by the Slovak defence...a couple of half chance headers came his way but nothing that you thought "he should do better there". However, saying that Germany were terrible really isn't fair on the Slovaks, who were truly excellent across all areas of the pitch.

Northern Ireland travel to Germany on Sunday. Hope they don't snap out of it

Daniel Levy is stepping down as spurs chairman
I'm in shock. Never thought I'd see the day. I'm not one of the anti-Levy brigade, I think he's got a couple of decisions wrong like anyone would, but overall done great things for the club and leaves us in a far better condition than when he joined.

I'm not sure how much will change really, given that the board is still the same, Levy retains his shares but someone else will take over the chairman roll I guess. Will take some getting used to though, with someone else getting the flak.
