They accepted £35 then said no at the last moment!

There appears to be this thought that if we overbid for the player then he would have joined - thankfully we aren’t like Man Utd and throwing money down the drain

The price was never the issue , Palace knew that and they had time to get someone in , they did get someone in but seems they don’t trust him yet and they also had a second one who imo the manager didn’t want so they scuppered the deal ( well the manager did ) and he then threatened to walk and once Parish arrived back from his fitness class he pulled the plug

There we go again. Got to get a dig in about Man Utd, especially when telling us how fantastic Liverpool are in comparison.

Liverpool are not like Man Utd. They spend their money wisely. They've only spent £446.5 million in this transfer window after all.

But hey, amazing from the club that they didn't dare bid an extra few million on Guehi to try and cement the deal, otherwise they'd be like Man Utd :ROFLMAO:

That’s not quite accurate though If the deadline reports are true. Sky Sports announce Palace had signed an 18/19yr old defender who is one for the future and was never signed as Geuhi replacement but was one in addition to who they were targeting to replace him. They never got that deal over the line so the manager wanted it pulled.

It was the guy from Brighton ( Igor ) who that agreed a deal with , had a medical but it seems was told he wouldn’t be guaranteed first team football by the manager ? He was the one who was supposed to be Guehi’s replacement

That to me seems a bit random , so the CB went off to West Ham

There a few things that a bit strange about it all

Parish accepted the bid and allowed the player to speak to Liverpool and take a medical etc , the deal was all done for the player and the club put in the deal sheet which needed to be signed by both clubs before 6 pm

They had a CB at the club during the day getting the deal done - why wouldn’t he be playing regular football if he was the replacement for Guehi ?

Also the owner going missing during the day ?

I can understand if it was too late to sort out a transfer on the last day so they just turn down the bid straight away but Parish didn’t

Imo he wanted the deal done to ensure the club get money for him , the manager has thrown his toys out with threats of quits and Parish has succumbed to that at the last minute - Glasner is leaving at the end of the season anyway , he won’t care what happens next season , also if he got offered a big job today he would jump ship straight away

Guehi comes across as a top professional and he is imo going to continue to give his all but there will be no doubt he will be livid missing out on the transfer and I don’t expect there is any chance he will sign any contract with the club especially after what just happened
The CB we signed for £20m is a 19 year old French lad. One for the future. Yes he will play PL this season, but both Parish and OG have said, we sell MG as long as we have a like for like replacement and that to be is a regular PL starter and international level. This all started at the start of last season when we offered MG a contract and he turned it down, we spent £15m + £5m add ons on Chadi Riad who is a 22 year old Morocco international we got from Real Betis. He played 3 games at the start of the season and looked the perfect long term MG replacement. He then did his ACL and is due back next Month.......the issue is its a huge risk to sell MG now and then wat until Riad to return.

The stuff about Parish being in a health club is slightly over the top. His office is in central london so he is not exactly miles away. They do have mobile phones (And emails before the Notts Forest supporter pipes up). If we had got Igor on loan then MG would be a Liverpool player. Trust me we would have fuming with that, losing our captain and him being replaced not with a £40m defender as 1st thought, or a lad from AC Milan, but a frigging Brighton reject!!!!! Wow!

I agree MG probably won't sign a new contract, as we have offered him one twice already BUT if he is currently on say £60-£70k / week with us we could offer him say a 2 year deal on £150k/week with a low release clause come end of the year (Say £40m). He will be £3.9m better off ........although he would of course lose on a possible signing on fee if he walks away contract free next summer.

Most refs have never played the game so didn’t know what it looked like in the first place so wouldn’t recognise if it was “ gone”

It’s the only reason I can think of for some of these decisions.

If that's the litmus test for refereeing a game, and pretty much no one on here has played at a high level, none of us has the ability to recognise good and bad reffing...

Why were they looking at Igor then ? Was it a panic look because of the bid - we bid two weeks before just after the Charity shield initially and MG was in favour of the move but then it seemed to go quiet

I was surprised that they accepted the bid on the last day when someone hadn’t been signed , I know there was talk of Gomez going to Palace on loan which could have been a good deal but not sure why that wasn’t persued

In fairness to the player it might work out better for him - we have 4 CBs at the moment but next summer I think one will go and he will come in to be first choice

Don’t think there will be any ill feeling between the clubs etc

Just still surprised they accepted the deal at first

Might I suggest, there are many (and on here) who think we did just that with Nunez?
Personally I liked him and wanted him to find his scoring feet, but it never really happened. But that doesn't alter the fact, he cost a lot and went for a lot less.

Yep no ill feeling that I'm aware of.

Think Gomez was asked by us, but the player wanted to stay. He was also supposed to be bei going to AC milan and we were getting a CD from them, but again Gomez said he wanted to stay and fight for his place. Perhaps Gomez has played a blinder........wants to stay and fight for his place and gambled that if he refused to move late on his replacement might then not join.....leaving him to no doubt likely to play for Liverpool this season.

One things for sure, our 2 clubs have kept Sky and Talksport etc busy over the last few weeks!

Nunez is a strange one , I liked him as well and he scored some big goals for us over his time at the club , goal output not fantastic

15 in his first season with 5 assists

Second season was his best with 18 goals and 15 assists

And last season was his worst with 7 and 7

But was a bench player

Had a lot of raw ability and scored some great goals but didn’t justify that price tag

Paying £64mil for him and getting £45mil isn’t the worst

Certainly don’t see him as a flop but missed too many chances

He was the perfect example of giving a manager too much say - until then everything was down to Edwards and Ward - seems the “data” team wanted Isak ( at the time ) and Klopp wanted Nunez

I like Gomez - been excellent both as CB and fullback and having him in the squad is great but been awful with injuries , fully fit I think he is one of the best English CBs - just had too many big injuries

Hope he can stay fit
