I'm not a stats person on the whole but I did see a stat yesterday, I think, which showed Jackson's goal ratio to chances was one of the worst in the league. Considering the chances he had at Chelsea his goals tally should have been much higher.

He might be better this season, it takes a season for many to settle in England, but I saw nothing in his play last season that suggested he was a top striker. Not even a middle level striker 🤷‍♀️

It wouldn’t surprise me that stat at all

Whilst Nunez missed a number of high profile glaring chances he still managed to have an ok strike rate

Newcastle it seems are in a bit of a mess - players turning them down and players wanting out

Jackson and Wissa might be the ones they are left with

There is only one player wanting out, hardly an exodus.

Personally, I'd go full beans into Wissa, at which point they are in a much better place. A front line of Wissa, Gordon, Elanga and Barnes to swap in with anyone out of form, that is a good set up. This window has been a little bit messy but it could ultimately end up okay.

It’s not just about a long throw in into the box
Reading that article, a lot seems to be about the players receiving the ball and not all about teaching players to take long throw ins. you are (sort of) proving my point that the long throw is thought to be a sign of a bad team.

It would be a decent line up but think they need one more as they have also lost Wilson - maybe someone like Mateta or Muniz

But can see them going for Jackson as well

He's already had two seasons with Chelsea, if I'm not mistaken.

Nunez 25 goals in 95.
Jackson 24 in 65

Don’t think it’s ever a sign of a bad team , it’s a weapon that teams have used in the based if they have the right players to both execute the throw in and also the players in the box

Don’t think many top teams use them because they don’t have the type of players to do either

Does he?

Just tried to do a bit of digging. Jackson's conversion rate in Premier League is around 17%, but dropped to around 11% last season. His big chance conversion was noted as 32% a year ago.

Darwin Nunez conversion rate is noted as:

2021-22 (Benfica) = 30.6%
2022-23 (Liverpool = 10.7%
2023-24 = 10.2%
2024-25 = 15.4%

Big chance conversion (23/24) = 14.29%

So, Nunez may have well seen an improvement in chances taken last season, Jackson declined. But I'm not sure it would be fair to assume Nunez' has an OK strike rate?

They definitely need a back up striker but that is not quite as urgent a need. Wilson was there in body at times last year but he didn't contribute much, he wont be much of a miss.

Newcastle owners giving us £50mil for Nunez 😲
...and this is where you have to question the rationale of PIF and their medium (not just long) term commitment to Newcastle by handing Liverpool a transfer kitty boost which will strengthen their position in prizing one of Newcastle's key assets away from the club.

I'd say at this moment in time that PIF (perhaps understandably) are more interested in growing their own domestic league than in their "commitment" to Newcastle and I fear a fallow year for The Toon and wouldn't be surprised if we finished 8th or 9th.

The Dan Ashworth debacle and subsequent internal fallout when Paul Mitchell was appointed, has done far more damage than could ever have been envisioned. Currently the boat lacks leadership and experience and has largely lost direction. The removal of Staveley and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi also robbed the club of a lot of its soul and broke connections between the playing staff and upper management. It will take a couple of seasons to restore that, and I fear by then it will be too late, and the richly talented team that we have will break up over the next 18 months and we will be back to square one, stood outside the big boys playground looking in in awe...a once in a generation opportunity squandered.

The new Sporting director and CEO (when formally appointed!) have an awful lot of work to do.

Have they appointed a DoF or is a name in the frame ?

CEO is almost certainly going to be David Hopkinson, a Canadian who most recently has been working on strategy for the New York Knicks and New York Rangers and has previously worked with Real Madrid....I believe a formal announcement is due in the coming couple of weeks.

Sporting Director is tipped to be Ross Wilson, who is currently the Nottingham Forest Chief Football Officer.

That’s going to help the club significantly

With them moving onto other forward targets is it a case of just when Isak goes ?

$64k question.

I'm sure the club are sitting down with Isak now and telling him what a silly boy he has been and trying to thrash out a compromise. There would be no better signing than to keep Isak and get him integrated back into the team....but a lot of that will depend on his fellow players and how they have been affected.

Unfortunately the timing of our far east tour could not have been worse, with half the club on the far side of the world whilst all the transfer shenanigans (not just Isak but Wissa, Mbuemo, Trafford, Pedro and all the other players we were supposedly in for) were going on....if you are a player looking to join a club then to my mind the one person you really need to sit down and talk with face to face is the team manager, to get an understanding of what he sees in you as a player, how he feels you can fit in, where he feels you can develop....you cant do that at the far end of a video screen and your agent cant do it talking to the sporting director.

I'd still say it is 85% likely that Isak will go but just cannot see a viable replacement of an appropriate age to replace him. A Newcastle United without a dedicated Number 9 is not a Newcastle United as the world knows it. If only we could clone Malcolm Macdonald.

Seems like he was asked not to turn up to the squad training and family event today and to come in after everyone has gone

Not a fan of all this even if we maybe the team that will benefit from it

Agehawa from Porto seems to be a player I have seen mentioned on social media along with Wissa and Watkins

Well...Howe has been on the record saying that re-integration will need to be earned by Isak...so no real surprise there.

Aghehowa i had to google....never seen any prior mention of him! €50m seems a lot (value according to TransferMarkt).

Wissa would be good....he has got goals in him...Watkins would surprise me but I wouldn't say no....a front line with options from Watkins, Wissa, Gordon, Elanga, Murphy and Barnes would give give huge flexibility to help mix things up in games where we need a goal, which is something we haven't really had, when Wilson and Osula have been the main striking alternatives to Isak.

If we got W&W and was able to add a CB, RB (Trips is coming to the end and whilst Livramento can cover for Hall at left back, there is no long term cover for him in his natural position) and a midfielder to give depth, then, even if Isak went, it could be be viewed as a positive window, with a stronger squad with greater overall depth.
