It was more of a general comment. Not sure where you’re reading that I’ve said they went purely for money unless your trying every which way to spin your narrative as the only correct opinion.
I said they never went to other clubs not because they didn’t say they want to like you’ve pointed out but because they don’t improve their starting XI. That doesn’t take away from them having fantastic seasons last year or them being good players. It simply means what it says they don’t get in ahead of what the other clubs already have or don’t suit their needs as clubs.
But at the same time to stick to your point about money. They have more than doubled their salaries and the transfer fees they commanded (rightly so for their quality) is well above what most other Premier league teams outside of the big clubs can afford. So with Tottenham and Newcastle not bidding other than Utd who is going to be able to afford those transfer fees and salaries.
So if you want to swing it to your narrative I’d love to hear why you think they went , did they go to bigger clubs absolutely and will they have better chance of winning something of course they will and it’s a good career choice but were they ever gonna go to another mid table team for the same wages! Only they know
The top clubs, competing in Europe this season, will all buy big value signings. I'm sure some of those signings will need to compete for a spot in starting 11. They don't all necessarily just waltz in to 1st 11.
Not saying that every top club would go for the likes of Mbeumo or Cunha, as different clubs will have different priorities. But, I'm saying that in all probability, there would be at least some of them that would have happily gone for either of those two if it looked like those players were up for the move. I'm sure other high value attacking midfielders will be signed by top clubs.
Thus, I don't think Utd were their only option at that level of money. Thus, it's irrelevant how their wage at Utd compares to their old clubs. Because their wage would have likely increased by the same amount, if not more, if they'd gone somewhere else
