Without going too much into it and to (try to) summarise;

- Club have been actively trying to get him to sign a new deal for months which would have paid him more and secured the club with a higher release clause
- He's chosen not to do this and instead his agent has touted this (previously unknown to literally everyone except those present at the contract signing, apparently) release clause to other clubs in the last few days to force a move.
- Spurs have activated it and he's gone without so much of a hesitation having previously stated that "there's nowhere else he'd rather be" after the club celebrated his 100 appearances in a Forest shirt.
- The club have deleted ALL evidence of the new shirt teasers they put out yesterday morning as it turns out Gibbs-White was heavily involved in the promotional content they'd been creating for the shirt release. If they had ANY inkling of him leaving, they'd have left him out of this entirely, rather than having to panic re-cut and botch a video together for the shirt release last minute yesterday.
- I'm also not so sure they'd have sold Elanga if they'd known that they'd be getting a good chunk of profit for Gibbs-White with a sale.

I get that this happens all the time in football and it's just business - but still doesn't sit well. you still have the odd few loyal players (see Bruno Fernandes) and I thought Gibbs-White was different after we welcomed him and gave him a home after Wolves fans scathed him and his other half all over social media (and at games).

It's not him leaving that's the issue, he was always going to leave at SOME point - it's how he's gone about it.
I honestly don't think this any different to how most deals seem to get done these days. Clubs obviously speak to players and agents to sound out moves ahead of time. No loyalty or morals in football, to expect some is foolhardy. At least he didn't leave on a free, is all you can say.

Also, the other thing that baffles me, is that Tuchel has clearly been in MGW ear about needing to play CL football to give him a better chance at playing next year in the WC....but Spurs have Maddison, who Gibbs-White isn't going to immediately overtake, so it's not like he's guaranteed to be starting week in and week out.

Having said that, Spurs, with Gibbs-White and Johnson linking up again will give some teams problems this season.

Yea, we've still profited from him, so it's positive in that regard and if he didn't want to stay, then makes sense to move him on....but it's clearly come from nowhere otherwise the club wouldn't have spent weeks shooting the new shirt promo stuff with him in it.

Maddison has big injury issues and wouldn’t surprised me if they sold him off

I quite liked that to be fair. There aren't many surprises anymore with Twitter 'ITKs' revealing everything weeks in advance. It harks back to the good old days of shock transfers, haha.

Hard to know if Johnson starts either. We seem to be front-loading the squad slightly. Other than up front where we have only one. I'm guessing Richarlison will be offloaded to Saudi or something, and even then we've got..

Solanke/Tel
Son/Odobert/Tel - Maddison/MGW/Kudus - Kulusevski/Johnson/Kudus

Be interesting to see how Kudus does for you, he was great for us 1st season but then after a falling out with Lopetegui he never seemed to be the same player again. Even after Lops went and Potter came in he always seemed to be in a bit of a sulk. I think he wanted the right wing but that’s Bowens best position so he was asked to play elsewhere. He’s a skilful player but often has no end product.
Still you got a good (Mebbe) player and we got a decent amount of cash which will hopefully kick start our transfers so I’m not unhappy about the deal.

This is the problem I guess, seems a good player, but I can't see him starting ahead of Kulusevski so perhaps he'll just be the incredible sulk again.

Well, Well, Well....when you think this deal couldn't get any more Forest.....

Seems like Spurs and/or Gibbs-White's camp have not even approached the club to give permission to talk.....I'm sure he'll still go (unless he has had no input on this so far), but with additional compensation if they want him.

EDIT: Essentially the same thing Chelsea did last season with Olise which Palace then complained about.

Not going to lie, I think that's pretty pathetic from Forest. Every club speaks to agents to sound out deals with players, and if you don't believe that you're in cloud cuckoo land. End of the day, I'm not sure what 'permission' is needed when it's a release clause - if you stump up the money then it's done. Typical Forest these days though isn't it?

Fair enough. I'm sure you said the same about Palace when Chelsea did the same thing last season with Olise?

I have no idea what you mean? Chelsea didn't sign Olise, he went to Bayern.

Chelsea had to back out (because they'd illegally tampered, which is against the rules of the league), he re-signed with Palace with a higher release clause, then went to Bayern.

If Forest knew nothing about it, how have they triggered the clause?

You'll still get him for less than he's worth by the way, don't panic.

First I've heard of it, I don't bother following transfer rumours that aren't to do with Spurs. But yeah, same rules apply for me. Release clause should be honoured, and I don't particularly care if a club taps up someone's agent because they all do it. Might as well go and cancel Real Madrid's last 50 transfers if you don't believe that.

I don't fully understand it either but presumably the prospective buyers are required to formally inform the owners that they are going to pay the full release clause value before inviting the employee for a medical.
He'll be leaving, especially now that he's made his intentions clear. Now it's probably just negotiations for more cash due to some sloppy admin.

I don’t normally comment on these things as it’s always rumours and innuendo but this screams of the owner has been caught out by the release clause and is desperately trying to save face with the fans or get spurs (or someone else) to pay the £100mil they think he’s worth

Edit. Forest have never tapped another player up then?
