Sunderland have spent over £64m so far in this latest window.

Who the hell do they think they are? How dare they strengthen their squad with numbers and quality in a bid to survive the EPL? Hopefully they get taught a lesson and learn their place. You can't just buy your way to survival.

Strange post 🤷‍♂️

They have bought 3 players

Too early on a Monday morning is it Arthur?! 🤣🤣🤣

Ah going back to the 20 plus players that Forest signing when they first arrived to then stay in the Prem by the skin of their teeth 😉

As with all transfers - it’s never about how much is spent or how many arrive but always about how well money is spent and the players arriving are the right ones

I don’t think bringing in 20 plus players is a blueprint for the future

I agree, for those clubs who have an established and stable squad.

For those clubs who would otherwise start the season with a squad of 13 registered players, half of whom are absolutely nowhere near PL standard and aren't content to just "know their place" and go down with a whimper, while being lauded by the press as "plucky", maybe it should be?

And the six teams who have been promoted since then don't appear to have a better blueprint. Do you Arthur? If so, please share!

Why would a team promoted only have 13 players ?

Surely they got promoted with an established squad

Don’t think Brentford went mad signing players

Fulham spent well but not mad

Bournemouth again didn’t go mad

Even going back to Brighton they also didn’t go mad

It was sensible buying getting the right players in

Southampton bought a load last summer and went down

Ipswich and Leicester didn’t and went down

All this “know” their place stuff is nonsense at the end of the day

Do Forest fans feel wronged by someone to have such a huge chip

Loan deals ending, contracts up, transfers out - many reasons that any football club faces

Maybe you're finding something in the Dons post that isn't there. Forest fans are no more homogenous in their opinions than Liverpool fans. This one couldn't care less what other clubs are spending on players.

New contract for Ola at Forest. Massive news. Great player and nicest man on the planet.

Combinations of loads of players out of contract and not renewing and the core of the promotion side being loan players - some of whom we wanted/tried to sign but it dodn't work out. While these factors are true for all sides, it was somewhat of a unique situation in our case.

I don't follow Brentford closely but I believe they had a reasonably stable squad when they came up. They seem to be somewhat of an exception to the rule, in terms of recent years.

Fulham and Bournemouth had recently been up and then down again, so had existing quality in their squad, backed up by parachute payments.

In the case of Fulham, I seem to remember seeing a graphic doing the rounds on the most expensive squads ever to get promotion to the EPL and they were at the top of it. (I could be wrong on this though, so apologies if that's the case)

Anyway.....genuinely didn't mean this to be about Forest, I didn't even mention them. It's a bit slow on this thread at the moment, my post about Sunderland was just a comment upon the difficulties newly promoted sides face. I wasn't really ticking them off. I hope they do well.

Yeah maybe judging based on Don’s posts on here over the last 18 months etc - protected 6 etc etc - comes across as having a bit of chip on the shoulder about the league and other teams

That is great news when it comes to Ola - excellent full back

I know it can be hard when all you have to go on is the written word, especially on forums/social media. But you take everything far too literally Arthur! 🤣 Peace! ✌️

Villa were in a similar boat when we came up - didn't quite sign 20 players but we did go pretty scattergun with signings - and made a good number of them.

Promoted with Mings, Tammy A, Tuanzebe (that I can remember) all on loan - we signed Mings that summer but he was the only loan we kept I think?

Brought in one window -

Mings
Douglas Luiz
Konsa
Nakamba
Wesley
Targett
Trezeguet
El Ghazi
Engels
Jota
Hause
Heaton

Its full of risk - but it kinda works?

So you know why. Which makes your question either:
a - pointless
b - looking for an argument
c - all of the above

Getting a bit tedious - not every post is looking to create any sort of argument

How about it was just a simple question that wasn’t looking for anything beyond clarification

I don’t think I have come across a situation where a team is promoted and loses that many players

As @Don Barzini has alluded it appears to be a unique situation at Forest during that summer which meant they had to bring in a load of players - so the question was valid and someone was kind enough to answer it politely 👍

As we know it’s going to be tough for any team coming up to stay up

Will take a combination of good signings , a bit of luck , some players having a storming season and also some other teams that are already in the league having a season a struggle

Wolves ,West Ham , maybe even Brentford with be in the sights of any promoted team
