All very good, but don’t think any of them have done what Rooney did.

If only he didn’t get injured, was it against Portugal?

2004 Euros when he went off after 15 mins or so - England were winning after a great finish from Owen but then they scored a header late on , disallowed header from Campbell and went to extra time and Pens

Beckhams penalty ended up out of the stadium and Vassell missed

Another belter of a call into 606 on Saturday, bloke was adamant fans wouldn't care about England winning the World Cup because Tuchel is German. Just nonsense.

Driving back last night and there were a lot similar- a number wanting him sacked already and adamant that when he came to a match against Germany Tuchel wouldn’t be able to get the team to beat his homeland

Who was the last English youngster who “burst into the scene” and had the potential to be truly world class?

Rooney?
Jordan Henderson

The serious answer would be Bellingham, we just can't judge his whole career yet for obvious reasons.

Before that, I'm guessing Rooney was the last young player who had all that hype around him. Owen not long before him, when he scored that goal against Argentina in 1998.

Judging by the early days of his tenure, we will never get the chance to find out anyway.

It's not a massive surprise.

I'd imagine Spurs can pay him more than Brentford for starters?

And, as many like to point out that top players will not want to go to Man Utd because they are not in Europe, then a consistent argument with that will be top managers will want to manage in Europe? If such a belief is held, then it is hardly surprising he would want to go to Spurs. Unless he said no to a club like Man City or Real Madrid, because then I'd agree, I'd be surprised if he picked Spurs in that case.

Frank to Spurs is a very logical move for Spurs. If they give him a chance, he will do a very good job. He certainly has done at Brentford. Solid team, play good football. Spurs will take a bit of that I think.

Spurs will give him more money to spend than Brentford can. He also has CL this coming season. You can't blame him for taking the job, if he does.

Going on Levy’s past actions I’m not sure solid will be good enough

It’s a job that could ruin his growing reputation

He will have money to spend no doubt

Frank possibly going. Wissa possibly going. Mbeumo probably going.

Could Brentford struggle next season? I know they'll have money to spend on replacements, but it doesn't always work that way.

If Frank does go, are Spurs the new XG FC?!

It will be tough if they lose the manager and their two best players

But they do have a very good foundation there

I think that Spurs is a club that has such a recent history with managers, similar to Chelsea, that whatever happens his name will still be okay.

Spurs have a decent squad already. Add a few, give them a better structure (ie not headless charge forwards), and he will get them top 6-8 again quite quickly. After last season, that's a pretty good starting point. After that, they are then fighting with the newer strong teams, not just the established ones.

He is the one I want us to get. Plays the attacking style that we apparently crave, only did it much better than Ange with worse players. Would be a very Poch-like appointment I think.

I think that's a poor appointment from Spurs. He's done OK at Brentford but there's a huge difference between no pressure at Brentford to managing in the CL and expecting to finishing Top 4.

Be good to see him try a level above and what happens though! Wonder if he'll try and take Mbeumo with him?

Bigger question:

Who are the favourites to be the new Brentford manager? Is Michael Carrick's reputation still decent after Boro let him go?

The pluses; the style of play he wants the team to play is very good. His reputation as a player adds to the attraction as a manager. There’s no histrionics. He was always going to struggle with the club selling players from under him. (I’d have given him till early December).

The minuses; he’s a one trick pony. His in-game management was very poor. Opposition managers out thought him time and again, and his reaction time to that was almost measured in weeks. Too many matches lost or drawn from strong positions. Team selection was at times … odd. In form players were rested when there was no evidence of tiredness. If you were in, you were in but if you didn’t fit, even though there was little evidence of any fallout, you might make the bench.

His inexperience shone through at times. Not as good as the hype.

I met my Liverpool relatives this weekend and was chatting about various players. My cousin is a season ticket holder, follows them all over, the others watch them every game on a dodgy stick. Their view on Elliot and Curtis Jones is that neither are good enough to start and are squad players, no more. Elliot lacks that little bit of pace to take him away from people and whilst he can do good stuff, he isn't enough for them. Jones they just don't see enough from him.

They'd be happy for both to stay as cover but no more than that. At their age, they probably need to move on to a middle level club to get more games.

One other thing, my cousin was one of the bus drivers at the new stadium test event. Half full stadium, it was an absolute mess coming out and he doesn't see how that will change. The best way, in his opinion, is to be to walk to and from the city centre, forget transport. It isn't that close but it's the best of a bad lot.
Said months ago “ the roads havnt changed a lot and on match day it’s going to be a nightmare”

There’s a PXG fitting studio 500 yds away.!
