Certain Clubs? You mean Man Utd, everyone else you judge differently?

Spurs are currently 17th. At best, they may get to 14th if they win and everyone else above them lose on the last day (no idea who plays who, apart from Utd playing Villa). Before this season, Spurs worst finish in the PL was 15th in 1994, and they last finished as bad as 14th in 2004. For the last 21 years, they have only been outside the Top 10 once (2008, 11th), and are typically in the Top 6.

So, why does potentially finishing 17th not supposed to ring alarm bells for Spurs fans? Yet when Utd finished 8th last season, you told us all on a daily basis the horror of it all, and how it was such a disgrace?

Is it just that poor old Spurs fans need to be grateful for what little they may achieve in a season. Whereas the mighty Man Utd fans need to be devastated when they fail to conquer all of those around them in the most elite competitions?

In the year 2000, did you back Man Utd's decision to withdraw from the FA Cup, agreeing it is a small time competition? As for Man Utd fans, I'm sure they would have loved to be in the FA Cup that season. The Europa League final isn't the last game of the season, not even the second last European Final. But it is "massive for Spurs".

Was the FA Cup a big competition in 2001, 2006 and 2022 when Liverpool won?

It was a cup competition when we won it

In 2001 it was part of a treble

In 2006 we also got to CL football

In 2022 it was part of a domestic double and the club also came 2nd

Do you not judge clubs differently based on the size of the club , the stature of the club

Man Utd and fans claim to be the biggest club in the world

Should a club which is supposed to be the biggest have higher standards to judge against

Spurs haven’t won a trophy for 17 years - it should be celebrated

Newcastle won their first trophy for over 50 years

Palace won their first ever trophy

Those achievements for those clubs are massive

At Man Utd - LVG won the FA Cup - came 5th and was sacked

Your sounding like Arteta now. Who cares that you didn't win the CL. you got to the final, that's what is important.

Who cares if it was part of a treble in 2001. Who cares if you won it in 2006, regardless of a CL final appearance. Who cares if you won it on 2022 when you came 2nd in the league. If it isn't important, it isn't important. Why should you be able to pick and choose when an FA Cup win is important or not???
 
Well the England squad is a joke, but as it's two friendlies I'm trying not to care. I am honestly baffled how he can pick guys like Toney and Henderson playing in second and third rate leagues - even the Championship is a higher standard. But then he has picked a Champ player as well. :LOL:

I have no qualms with someone earning a coin in Saudi, but that should be your international career over. Not on principle, but simply because it's impossible to gauge your level against Sunday league defenders. Meanwhile Henderson is part of an Ajax team about to complete one of the biggest bottlejobs of all time.

You are missing the point wildly

Winning a domestic cup is still very good and for most clubs that’s what’s counted as a successful season that you would expect to see a manager continue at the club

If a club the stature of Man Utd wins the FA Cup but fails in the domestic league then questions need to be asked - the league should be their bread and butter - you don’t be the biggest club by just winning domestic cups

You are the biggest clubs by winning and challenging for leagues and CL

Last season Man Utd won the FA Cup - great day out , they also had their worst season in the prem since it started - that’s not good enough for a club of that stature

If you think that’s good enough then fine - for me that maybe shows how far United have dropped


Anyway back to the England squad

Trafford is in fairness a very good GK and also showed it before

Henderson can only be there for some experience but it’s time for the likes of Wharton to be involved

Man Utd DO NOT claim they are the BEST club in the world, though. Do they? Man Utd fans were not going into this season thinking we'd smash everyone around us. They had the hope that we would play better football, but there was no arrogance.

BIGGEST club in the world is subjective, and often can be a childish argument. A bit like "My dad can beat up your dad". How is is judged? Turnover? Global fans? Brand? It isn't just Man Utd fans that talk about Man Utd being one of the biggest clubs in the world, just as Real Madrid, Barcelona are? I'm sure many Liverpool fans also boast about Liverpool being the best in the world.

You have literally heard the direct account from a Spurs fan today, telling you that they are still deeply disappointed about their season. But you are having none of it. Man Utd fans will sometimes give you some more positive opinions on Man Utd when they come about, yet you will never have any of it. You are the judge of how other fans should be feeling, and thus their own voice is worthless in the debate. And you will give the complete opposite argument depending on who you are debating with, and excuse that simply because of the clubs we support.

If Newcastle or Palace were sitting 17th in the league, I'm sure they would still have big concerns about their club, despite a nice cup win. Didn't West Ham quickly turn on Moyes after their European win, they may already have been asking for a change as they lifted the trophy?

Lol 😂 no Bowen.. ok then , hasn't got a clue. Past 5 games he has 4 goals and 2 assists

12 goals and 9 assists all season

Better numbers than eze (who I rate highly), Rodgers and miles ahead of Gordon number wise

His numbers are double the goals and 1 less assist than the golden boy saka aswell this season ..

So yeah
 
Not sure what Madueke has done in recent months - Bowen should be there , that’s very strange why he isn’t there

Good to see he is ok to drop Foden who has been poor

Toneys record in Saudi - 28 goals in 42 ?
 
People should realise that it is not the best 23 (or so) players that get into a squad - if it was, there would be no defenders :ROFLMAO:

The manager must (should?) have an idea of the system he wants to play and picks the players he thinks are best to fit into this system. There is no point picking 3 similar players for the same midfield spot for example.

Think when people are looking at who is in the squad they are judging similar positions

Take Henderson for example - Wharton plays the same position and has been excellent this season in a stronger league

Bowen has played better than most of the wide players that’s been picked

England will never win a trophy until they move away from select the best names and select the best players regardless of team for the squad

Look forward to seeing foden being attempted to squeeze into a position that doesn't suit him to allow Bellingham to play the number 10
