Did the FA cup come with the added bonus of CL football to give a team a platform

Winning the FA Cup for Man Utd is small fry

Winning the Europa is massive for Spurs

Unless you feel that winning the FA Cup is the standard for a Man Utd manager now ?

Is the drop off that big now for the club the expectations are domestic cup comps ?
You just blissfully change your arguments to suit your narrative, and completely contradict yourself. And then justify it by telling fans of other clubs what they should be grateful for.

Winning the FA Cup last season got Man Utd into the Europa League, did it not? Sure, not Champions League, but at least I'm not arrogant enough to believe we have a right to be in the Champions League, it needs to be earned. Of course I want to win league titles and Champions Leagues, but I'll be happy enough with an FA Cup during poorer periods.

You lecture a Spurs fan that they should be happy with what they have, because they just won a major European trophy. Less than a month ago, you stated "It's a minor trophy now"

Winning the Europa would have been massive for both clubs, because at the reward of Champions league. Yes, it is nice to have a trophy in the cabinet as well, and Spurs have less so may feel better to more Spurs fans that it would to Utd fans. But we'd all laugh if Spurs fans came in here, gave it the big one and boasted about their win, and how they will be a force next season. I didn't watch Spurs through the Europa League, and maybe he changed his tactics for the final. But, it was pure horror football from both sides. It wasn't a master class from Ange. It was a disaster class from Man Utd's attack. Had Spurs played against a team like Bournemouth, Brighton, Brentford, etc, they could easily have lost that game playing that way

Not any more. Given the increased competition from the likes of Villa, Newcastle etc. Man U have no god given right to win anything. Fans need to temper their expectations and inject a healthy dose of reality...Man U are simply now part of the chasing pack, trying to hunt down the current top six or seven.

As it stands, a team looks at their fixture list, sees they are playing Man U and think, "mmm...could be tough but they're not even close to being the team they once were, we should get something from the game"....all that Man U have left currently is a small degree of "fear factor" based on their name and history. Currently "also rans" and next season the only thing they've got going for them is the lack of a European campaign to distract from the rebuilding process.

Man U will do well to sneak back in to the top six next year...and in that context an FA Cup win would be most welcome if you ask me.

Reports out saying Ivan Toney in line for a recall for England.

I wonder if he'll want the Undertaker theme played before the game?
And the games will tell us about as much about the state of the England football team as the current test match is telling us about the cricket team. Andorra and a friendly against Senegal is hardly a big test.

Really ? Is that the ambition now for Man Utd - domestic cup ?

Isnt it about winning leagues and CLs for the major clubs ?
Sorry Phil, but you know full well the FA Cup ranks high with all fans across all leagues. Thats why so many howl when teams play their fringe players to rest the regulars.

It seems like the expectations of many Man Utd fans is realistic (always have a few idiots).

It also seems like the expectations of some non Man Utd fans are very high for Man Utd, because it allows them to stick the knife in even deeper when those expectations are not met.

I am very confident in what I am about to say next.

At some point in the future Liverpool may well win the FA Cup. That same season, another club may win the league and another club the Champions League.

There is not an ounce of my brain that thinks you would dismiss the FA Cup win by Liverpool in that season, or trivialize it.

You’re just contradicting yourself now.

Have a day off Phil 👍🏻

Of course it is, but to say the FA Cup is small fry is utterly ridiculous.

The same competition that Man Utd decided not to enter one year

The same comp that we were forced to play kids in

The FA Cup unfortunately doesn’t reach the same levels it did in the past

It used to be the final game of the season - not even that anymore

Nice to see Morgan Gibbs-White get into the squad in the first draft this time.

Seems like all those Tweets from Fabrizio Romano linking him to Man City have paid off.

I like Toney, think it is a shame he is playing in such a low standard league. I would say I am amazed that he has been picked but then Henderson was picked for the last set of games so...........

Winning a trophy is always nice - but winning a domestic cup shouldn’t never be the single barometer of a season for certain clubs

If we are winning the FA Cup at the same time as having our worst ever season in the Prem then questions are asked

We won the league cup and got to the FA Cup final in one season but finished 8th - manager was sacked

Bringing up something from 25 years ago now to try and back up your argument?

In the year 2000, did you back Man Utd's decision to withdraw from the FA Cup, agreeing it is a small time competition? As for Man Utd fans, I'm sure they would have loved to be in the FA Cup that season. The Europa League final isn't the last game of the season, not even the second last European Final. But it is "massive for Spurs".

Was the FA Cup a big competition in 2001, 2006 and 2022 when Liverpool won?
