Is there any world in which Cunha can back out of a move to United? Because if so, that would be absolutely hilarious.

Rumour has it (and it is just Twitter speculation) that United will be having another look at the figures to see what works given they were seriously hoping that their summer budget would include the additional cup win money.

So Amorin has had 26 Prem games and won 6

Ultimately his stats since taking over have been worse than ETH

The teams seems to have gone backwards with very little improvement from many players bar Dallo

A lot of the criticism of Ange is not having a plan B but Amorin has nothing outside his plan A and seems very inflexible

So come the summer they clearly need a huge turnaround in players to fit his system

Or do they look at a manager who can get the best out of what they have there

Would Southgate been a better choice

If he decides he doesn’t want to join, then why would that be hilarious? No fan of any club wants a player who doesn’t want to be there.

The club would simply move on to another option. Same as any football club does when a player has a change of heart.

All this talk about managers not having the players to fit his system is a bit of a smokescreen to me.
You need a goalie, some defenders, some midfielders and some attackers. The first 2 groups stop goals, the last group score goals and the 3rd group does a bit of both. This is the same for any formation, system or style of play and not much changes. A left back doesn't do much different than a left wing back, a midfielder at the base of a diamond doesn't do much different than a midfielder in a flat formation, etc
Man Utd do not need a whole new team to fit the managers system, it is not too different that how every other team plays (same for Spurs, and the rest that have struggled this year) just needs the current players to do what they are paid to do and do it better.
Tim Sherwood, is that you?

I think you have to cut Ange some slack now however bad the season has been we have won a trophy and all them fans that travelled will never forget last night.

You have said you have given up on Spurs this season and stopped watching games and that’s entirely up to you, but as a lifelong fan I’ve endured watching a dreadful league season but it’s been capped with night that admittedly was a poor performance but will live long in the memory.

SuSo I would like to see him given another season with the hope that he realizes managing in the premier league takes a different approach.
Couldn't agree more. Having supported Spurs since the early 60's you can well imagine that there have been plenty of good and bad times over the years but the successes stay in the mind for ever. We can't carry on changing managers, very successful ones have come and gone without winning anything. Give Ange a chance to redeem himself, get Levy to fund transfers and let's go again.

I’ll be honest, I can’t see what all the fuss is about regarding last night. I get that everyone likes to have a bit of fun, but let’s be realistic.

Amorim wanted to come in the summer. He said right at the outset there would be problems, and so it has transpired. United were never going to qualify for the CL via league placings, and to be quite blunt the Europa League route was an unexpected bonus, because we haven’t played well in that either.

Bottom line, I feel quite sure that both Amorim and those recruiting him were already resigned to missing out on a CL spot when he was recruited, against his preference, mid season.

So, whilst those unconnected with the club are doubtless rubbing their hands with glee, I suspect those within have been planning for this eventuality for months. Qualification last night would have been a massive bonus. But certainly not expected.

Why would he, when he’s already said he would be happy to go there if they’re not playing in Europe?

Because he's contracted to a club, signed a new deal in January and we still had multiple games to play when he leaked it to Fabrizio.

Wouldn't be surprised if we see other clubs start to being mentioned as interested in him, especially one's in Europe.

Would you not at the very least expect the manager to find some small improvements?

Use the squad he has and adjust things a little to fit around what he has available until he can get in the players

It’s been relegation form since he arrived

The same people who decided to give ETH a new deal based on one game and then gave him £200m to waste?

The same people who sacked him months later?

The same people who appointed Ashworth and then sacked him with an £15m+ pay off just months later?

The same people who appointed Amorin and he's done so badly he'll end up with less than 1 point per game?

You've got a lot of faith in these people!

Point me in the direction of where I said I had faith in them. I said I suspect they’ve been planning for this eventuality, doubtless since they took the decision to sack ten Hag.

I won’t even say I have faith in Amorim. I like the guy. I think there’s real potential for him to succeed. But I can’t and won’t judge him on a few months. Months during which even the most deluded football observer would have to accept he has been given a free hit.

I’ll judge once he has had at least one full summer transfer window and a few months with his own squad. Even then, given the amount of work which needs doing, may be too soon.

My main concern is 16th/17th in league. Last night I was never confident, regardless of how bad Spurs are.

I too will definitely give Amorim more time, with a full window in summer. Not just him, the board as well.

I'm intrigued, and nervous, at the same time.

@Billysboots @Swango1980 how much money do you give him this summer? If he goes big and then gets the boot at Christmas, you could be in the same position this time next year and have a new batch of players that the next manager doesn't like, all on long contracts. The way he has failed to inspire the current team is a double edged sword. It can either say the current squad is very poor or he can not coach and inspire to the degree required. Which way the owners see it will show up when you start to spend this summer. It would have been much easier for them if you had ended up mid table with some decent performances being thrown in every so often.

It's an interesting one.
