The day before a mate text me to see if I wanted to go to a pub to watch the game. I said no, I now make a point of trying not to watch Man Utd in public.I had a ticket for this evening but had to collect my mum from hospital so couldn’t make it. Despite the result, I’m actually pleased to have watched largely from behind the sofa.
Also despite the result, glad I made that decision.
I very much expected a performance like that. In the past, against top sides, Utd have shown they can work hard when focusing on defending.
But, when they play games where they are expected to attack, often a very different story. Impotent at scoring goals. Not sure if it is because many of our attackers are young and/or slightly built. If they can find space, they can be dangerous, although decision making can be questioned. But, if defenders get tight to them and get physical, it is really tough. Utd players seem to lack the strength to ward off many challenged, or the power to really drive away from defender that's all over them. Whatever reason, often seem to get edgy and get tackled, or rush a pass that gets intercepted.
I question Zirkzee in general, but last night he made a really positive difference. He had the strength against the defenders, and did well to keep attacks going. Hojlund has shown he is capable in past, but he was way off it. Looked like he had run a marathon before kick off.
