This for me is another important point where consistency is and was inconsistent again. He let the play continue when it was offside ( down to linesman) but didn’t let it continue re advantage

As discussed earlier, he's giving the signal for free kick there rather than advantage.
I really think people are going overboard on this. It's just a minor slip-up not playing advantage when he could have done. He obviously didn't see Grealish was clean through or he would have done it. Not really much more to discuss is there?

Whatever the actual distance, Haaland is a long way to left of the referee, so they will have very different views.
Grealish is in line with one defender, and there is one defender goalside of Grealish the instant the pass is played. However, Grealish is sprinting forward, the guy in line with him is pushing up and the one goalside it running slowly. The moment the referee blows the whistle Grealish is sprinting towards goal, ball perfectly in front of him and defenders desperate to get back. It is why it is pretty much universally been called a really bad decision by the ref.
But, if the ref has seen what everyone else has seen, then there can be no way he stops the play. He's seemingly allowed advantage, and having a City player clean through on goal is a hell of an advantage. Even if that player isn't rapid and is not guaranteed to score, it is still a hell of an advantage. Which is why we are speculating as to what he has seen or not seen.
I agree. It’ll come out in the woodwork this week. No one knows why he did what he did yet.

He absolutely is not.
He was about to give a free kick, but stopped himself as Haaland got up immediately. The ref then starts to sprint forward and put his arm out (as we see in the picture). The ref is hardly going to start sprinting forward if he is about to stop play for free kick.
Then once Haaland kicks it forward, the referee then immediately puts the breaks on, blows whistle and stops play.

But that is the arm signal for free kick, it was discussed earlier. Two arms outstretched is the signal for advantage. So he's about to give the free kick.. maybe hesitates for a second, but thinks Haaland has just aimlessly punted it forward (as mentioned, presumably hasn't seen Grealish) so confirms his decision and gives the free kick. Once they all start moaning he realises Grealish was getting onto the pass, but it's too late. Simple as that, open and shut case.

The other option is that he was about to give the free kick when the foul happened, and then stopped himself mid blow of the whistle. He then looked to play on, but thought "crikey, I made a little noise with the whistle, I can't really play on now" So after considering playing on for a second, his senses told him he must now commit to stopping play as he was too premature on the whistle before. So he stopped play.
Obviously, we didn't hear a whistle be blown, and none of the players around him acted like they heard a whistle. But just another option as to what might have been going through his mind.
If it was in a Wolves match, the PGMOL would be rushing out to tell us how the mistake was made. Whereas they've remained very tigh-lipped today.

I agree with all of that. He WAS about to give a free kick. As soon as Haaland was fouled his whistle went to his mouth and he started giving the sign for free kick. But, as you say, he hesitated when he saw Haaland get up, so before he actually stopped play for the free kick, he then started running forward again and appeared to play the advantage. If he hadn't played advantage, the free kick would have been given when Haaland was on his knees and the ball moving back towards City's goal. That is when the ref has his whistle to mouth and hand out. Had he given it then, then we'd have never even got to the point Haaland could play a pass. But he didn't, he allowed Haaland to get up, control the ball and then pass it forward. Then decided to stop play.

To be fair to him, his error in the opposition half was less costly to City than the 13 shots their players had that weren't even on target.
But they largely seem to be escaping a public witch-hunt.

Jesus, I didn't think there was ever a chance of him being stood down. Just for missing the chance to give advantage while correctly awarding a foul??

Correct. Imagine if managers didn’t play someone in the next game if they made a mistake. We won’t ever improve officials by immediately relegating them.
