This link does nothing to suggest they were different offences. As I've said, I agree the situation arose through different circumstances, but each amounted to the same offence - fielding an ineligible player. The authorities were just more lenient on Liverpool, that's all.
Offences were the same. However, Liverpool are wealthy enough that they could hand over £200,000. Barnsley are not, so get kicked out.

Effectively, if you are wealthy enough to pay the authorities off, then you get to remain in the competition.

So what would you rather, Barnsley be given a similar fine and risk their possible existence, or kick them out of the cup but at least they can survive and go forward.

I'd rather Liverpool were just kicked out of the cup, instead of being able to pay them off. As soon as the authorities accepted a £200,000 fine, then what did they think might happen when a small club is guilty of the same offence?

It just seems like the richest clubs are allowed to get away with such breaches, but the smaller clubs cannot.

Yes I agree.
money talks and that’s what is wrong imo in football.

But it was the authorities that set the punishment not Liverpool.!

Watched the mighty Millers battle to a well deserved draw against dirty Leeds last night and was amazed to notice that there were no bookings during the game😲
Only 1 minute extra in the first half and 5 in the second. Was a joy to watch - except the backs to the wall defending in the latter stages (and the disallowed goal right at the death for Leeds)

Not sure what’s happened to Macallister since he left Brighton.
Is he still considered a £35m bargain?
Looked pants when I’ve seen him play 🤷‍♂️

My sister is a liverpool fan and I've had this discussion with her. He looks half the player he was with Brighton. This is a guy who won a world cup, being at liverpool shouldn't intimidate and it's not as if he needs to get used to the PL. A strange one.

One for our Brighton fans, are liverpool playing him in a different way?

He's quality no doubt about that. Klopp has him playing in the #6 role temporarily which i dont think he suits as its a specialist postion as we have seen over the years.

I've watched enough of him this season to see a world class footballer in him.

Will be interested to see Dunk's 2 yellow cards within a minute, both for dissent
Me too. We havent seen yellow cards banded about for dissent or kicking the ball away since the 1st international break at the beginning of the season.
