Bassey came from Ajax who paid Rangers £20m for him last year. No idea how much Fulham paid for him, but he is a carthorse, it was an unbelievable deal for Rangers.I actually watched the Spurs game last night - first game I've watched properly all the way through this season. The most notable thing for me was the full backs' positioning. Very odd to see them tucking into midfield when we have the ball, essentially making it a 2-2-2-4 formation in attack. At times you saw both Udogie and Porro in CAM positions. As a former full back myself I definitely couldn't have managed that.
That lad Bassey that Fulham have got at the back was useless, where they heck have they got him from? Fulham in general were awful. I find it absolutely staggering that Tim Ream is still getting a game for them - I'm sure they've been relegated twice with him at the back, he must have about 300 appearances for them - have they learned nothing? If they stay up it'll only be because there are three worse teams somehow.
Top of the league, and Ange now has the most points from the first 9 games of any new manager coming into the Premier League ever. Not getting carried away though as I believe we've had an exceptionally easy fixture list. We've beaten five relegation scrapper and a shocking United team, plus Liverpool capitulated with the two red cards. We're due to pay for this in April when we have Newcastle, City, Arsenal, Liverpool all in a row, so if we're still in the top four by then, that'll be the real test to see if we deserve it or not.
Maybe Ange's comment "I'm just copying Pep, mate" wasn't as much of a joke as people thought.Bassey came from Ajax who paid Rangers £20m for him last year. No idea how much Fulham paid for him, but he is a carthorse, it was an unbelievable deal for Rangers.
Ange used the inverted full backs to great effect at Celtic. Rodgers changed to the orthodox formation when he came in, but has changed back as it suits our full backs much better.
It was a good win for Spurs, yet I still think it was a bit flattering. There were times last night Fulham had the chance to rip Spurs apart. They had some good build up play, and Willian can be a very good player when he is on it. Yet, when they had the chance to finish a chance off, or give themselves a very presentable chance, they failed big time. There was a moment nearer the end where Harry Wilson was played clean through, yet as soon as it happened I already knew he was going to mess it up. He never even gave himself a chance, as he was so ponderous / slow in his run that it was easily defended in the end.I actually watched the Spurs game last night - first game I've watched properly all the way through this season. Yeah - they took too long with a few chances, allowed us to get in and make blocks. When your full backs are playing attacking midfield I guess you're going to give up chances though. Our goalie looks very good so far which is handy. We could have scored more ourselves though - at one stage Son and Maddison bumped into each other when one of them could have easily put it away. Fulham are obviously likely to struggle for goals this season though without Mitrovic; Vinicus and Jimenez just aren't up to standard. It was a good win for Spurs, yet I still think it was a bit flattering. Spurs have done well, they can only perform and get the results they are put up against, and they have certainly lost those type of fixtures before. But, you're definitely right in not getting carried away just yet. Beating Man Utd (a poor Utd side, but who basically threw it away in second half as they started pretty well), Bournemouth, Burnley, Sheffield Utd, 9-man Liverpool (last minute OG and the whole VAR controversy), Luton and Fulham, while drawing against Brentford and Arsenal are probably not results to get massively excited about. Apart from maybe Arsenal and Man Utd Spurs fans should probably expect to win the other games. I even include Liverpool in that, being down to 9 men.
At some point they'll drop points they were expecting to win, and it'll be interesting how they respond. How solid they are when there is a bit of loss of confidence.
Although, one thing that I do feel I might have had a point on is that selling Harry Kane was not the worst thing in the world. Immense player that he is, removing him from the side has allowed more focus and responsibility to be taken by the rest of the players on the pitch. And the money, if invested wisely, can enhance that going forward. Losing one great player may well result in having a stronger side overall.

You're right, the positive there is simply that we have avoided slip-ups against these teams. And only by the skin of our teeth against Sheffield and Luton.
I don't buy this rhetoric that we're better off without Kane because others have stepped up or whatever. We've approved because the manager has brought a completely opposite approach to the previous two managers, and the old approach was as much a failure as this one is a success. If we still had Kane we'd be doing just as well if not better, with Maddison assisting him. We're lucky enough to have another world class player in Heung-Min Son who is providing enough goals in the central striker position, because he's a great finisher.
We were as much a one-man show as City were with Haaland last season, and they did fine. Liverpool are currently just as much a one-man show with Salah, and they don't seem to mind that either.Sometimes the sum of the many is greater than a one man show though.
Its quite nice seeing you do well without it just being "The Kane Show" to be honest. You were very one dimensional before.
Well, that is clearly untrue. Man City finished 29 points ahead of Spurs, and scored 31 goals more than Spurs (Haaland scores 6 more than Kane) and City conceded 30 less than Spurs. So, as a team they contributed far more goals and as a team they defended miles better than Spurs. We were as much a one-man show as City were with Haaland last season, and they did fine. And even more so if Bayern didn't. They currently sit in 3rd positionNot sure about that. Haaland was the final piece of the puzzle of a team creating an insane amount of chances.
Kane had to create and score.
Its not a bad thing that he's no longer there, I don't think he would be able to press like you do now tbh, certainly not at the same speeds.
And wouldn't it be hilarious if he left and then you won a trophy![]()
I will genuinely feel bad for him when we win the league and Bayern only come 2nd. He was loyal to us and just finally ran out of patience... should have given it one more year and seen out the contract like I said. Why didn't he listen to me? Did he forget to check this thread? Not sure about that. Haaland was the final piece of the puzzle of a team creating an insane amount of chances.

The sad thing is, he has been under a cloud with Evertonians these last few years. I hope that can be forgotten now and suitable appreciation can be shown.RIP Mr Kenwright. Thoughts with the Evertonians.

One of the old school chairmen, self made, not a billionaire, a true fan.
Fans are not rational. I didn't share there animosity towards him and hopefully that will blend into the background now. I agree, he always came across as a genuine guy. They were my thoughts. It did seem to have gone very sour between Bill Kenwright and the fans in recent years, but he has always come across as a really nice fella.
