How can that goal for Netherlands V Portugal (Women’s World Cup) not be offside
Surely if you are an attacker in the 6 yard box you are interfering with play by default

Madness it be

Danjuma signs for Everton, 1yr loan. We tried to get him in January, Spurs hijacked the deal last minute. Didn't work, we have him now. Don't know much about him but hopefully he brings something.

Barnes signs for Newcastle. Tidy signing for the Toon. Good player, scores goals, works hard. Adds strength to the team and squad.

I have friends and family who are Leicester season ticket holders and who are delighted to get £38m for Barnes. Massively over hyped, they reckon.

I’m slightly surprised, given Newcastle’s wealth these days, that this is the sort of player they are signing. Or is this FFP at okay?

He scored 13 PL goals last season. Pretty tasty for a wide guy in a team that went down.

You pay a premium for an English player, he is a good age, 25, offers a left footed option, works hard. I think he will fit the role that Howe wants and so far he has done a good job of improving players.

It will be interesting to see how he fares this season. Your Leicester mates may be proved right, or Howe may be 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Money wise, yes the local papers do highlight ffp. They can't go crazy. Saint Maximim going is probably necessary.

I thought the lad they signed from Everton played in a similar position. I’m just surprised a player like Barnes was a priority.

I think they may play on opposing sides. One replaces Almiron, the other replaces Saint Maximim. Saying that, they may not necessarily each start. Champions League this year, more games to play, more players required. .

Newcastle were lucky last year in that they didn't have many injuries. Barnes and Gordon give them more depth in the midfield, an area they were a little short in quality through the ranks.

Every time I saw him he was missing good chances.
maybe that’s why they went down.
The defence didn’t help to be fair.

He was being touted as an England international as little as 18 months ago. Sorry, but he is some way short of that level.

I’m genuinely not convinced by his top four or Champion’s League credentials, and remain slightly bemused that this is the sort of signing the Saudi millions are being spent on.

I would say their strikers, Vardy and Ienacho failing to score a combined amount more than Barnes was more relevant. He top scored with 13 goals from out wide, that's pretty impressive. The strikers let them down, their defence let them down, they failed to replace Schmeichel.

I'm not saying he is a world beater but I think a lot of teams would be happy to add a 13 goals a season wide man to their squad.

I'd imagine if Leicester had a decent striker or 2, Barnes may well not have scored as many. As more moves would look to use their strikers to finish off. As Leicester didn't have many goal threats, it allowed Barnes to at least be more direct, and score more goals than he might have done.

Will be interesting to see how he does with better players around him. Not long ago, someone mentioned their suprise that Grealish's scoring stats did not massively improve since joining City. But, that may not be uncommon when a big fish from a small pond moves to a bigger pond with bigger fish.

Me... I said that... But also assists :ROFLMAO:

Newcastle don't have players on the same level as City atm though. I think he will do well there.

i don’t really disagree with you .
But he’s an average PL player imo.
great work rate, but if you play up front you can’t be missing the chances he does.
Reminds me a bit of Nunez.

Barnes is right-footed, I'm pretty sure. Plays on the left though.

Us signing him was baffling in the end. We flogged Bergwijn because he couldn't get a game, then loaned in Danjuma to seamlessly slot into his place on the bench. He managed two goals in very few minutes, so he might have been decent.

Ha ha, you are right. I really don't like this fashion, too confusing.

No idea about Danjuma but we will certainly get game time with us. Worth it as a loan.

Harvey Barnes is a good decent player , goes up and down the sidelines and pops up with goals - the sort of mid table signing but not sure he improves Newcastle too much - seems they are a bit hamstrung by FFP at the moment

At the moment it’s looking like it could be a tough season ahead for them with the added CL games

Forwards on their books:
Almiron
Gordon
St Maximin (leaving)
Isak
Wilson

They barely have any wingers. I think he's a significant improvement on St. Maxim in terms of output.

Wilson wont play 38 prem games plus cups and CL ether.

They really need depth!

Yeah I'd be surprised if they don't sign a striker. Wilson is good but only fit for about 20 games. Isak is a good player but not a 20 goal a season man.

No doubt once PIF have the 40 international players they want to buy, they will start to loan Newcastle a few.
