Man United should not be in the business of giving minutes out for free to players who wont play for them.

No premier league team should be.

You can let them train without pay, playing the friendlies is what blows my mind tbh.
It's early pre-season, I really don't think it's a big deal. When you look at pre-season line-ups they're usually a random mix of first team, squad players and youth players, depending on the varying levels of fitness. It's rarely what you'd consider to be a full strength team.

I appreciate this, but still think its just stupid to get a player in who wont be playing for you that year. The most pointless thing to do.

But that's United and their weird decisions yet again. They can do as they please, doesn't effect my club, but id not like to see them take chances off a young talent getting minutes if this was Villa.

Chill out man, pre-season friendlies are pretty much just for fitness. A man comes on his hands and knees just begging for a bit of time to keep himself fit at the club he grew up with, and you'd tell him to jog on. Horrible man. 😝

Damn straight I am. And I'm very chilled, its not Villa. Just expressing the view that its a waste of time.

There is no benefit of it for the team. So why bother.

It's an act of kindness to a club stalwart. We are nothing in this world but how we treat those around us. 😉

Can't think of any examples off top of my head, but I would have thought there are quite a few historic examples of out of contract players temporarily joining an old club to keep fit.

On one hand people moan about the way De Gea was treated by Man Utd, then others complain about then giving Evans a chance to keep his fitness up.

He isn't just training with them though, is he? I thought he is on a short term deal?

If they were doing him a favour only then he would be training with them, have use of the physio's etc but not getting paid. That is what would normally happen with these 'kind' gestures for past players.

It happens for sure - but they don't normally pen deals to play friendlies out of kindness - just train to stay fit.

Wilshire went back to Arsenal to train for example, but he never penned a deal to do it.

That's the bit I don't get....

Do we know for sure its not a 6 monther? Because if it was I see merit in it.... I jus don't understand it for a few weeks...

Maybe their other centre backs are injured or very unfit at the moment so he can just fill in. Who knows.

I can understand a club letting ex players train with them to keep up fitness etc and many clubs have done that

But to give him a contract ? Why do they need to do that ?

Surely they won’t play him in pre season friendlies when they have players who they will need to play for fitness, young players to see if they can make a step up or new players etc

If they are playing in pre season then is it because they want to see if it’s worth him getting a longer contract for the season etc

By sounds of what I read, they were initially letting him train without a contract. He impressed them, so he signed a short term contract.

If that is the case, what is the problem? The future of Maguire is uncertain. United have their first choice pairing, with Lindelof as back up. They possibly see Evans as a very good short term back up, before they go out and buy someone or get an academy player up to speed.

Its just a very backwards move.

You're Man United not Crystal Palace...

Id be after a proper top CB as a third option if I supported United.
