On another note, I'm seen De Gea has left Manchester United.
Can only assume they have the Inter keeper tied up.

I certainly hope a deal is agreed, otherwise the price has just gone up!

Sorry to see De Gea leaving the club in the manner reported, but I do think it’s the right decision. The manager wants a keeper who can effectively play as a sweeper, and De Gea is patently not that sort of player.

A great servant of the club over many years, who has kept us in games single handedly any number of times. But as the game has changed De Gea has not adapted, so his departure has been inevitable.

Yeah, Great shot stopper but not the type of keeper managers who play out from the back want.

Re De Gea, regardless of wehther he is right foir Man Utd or not, treating a player of 12 years this poorly really shows what a crappy club they have become, no class or professionalism. Why anyone would weant to join that shower is beyond me.

Assuming that everything we read in the press is true, of course 😉

He has been paid a lot of money but if it is true then I don’t blame him for walking away - the club has been poorly run since Ferguson left the club , not sure who took over from Woodward but there still needs to be a lot of work done off the field at the clubb

As far as I'm aware, they offered him new contract, and he didn't sign it. He then has a poor spell at end of season, and club/manager have obviously reevaluated the keeper position. He then decided he wanted to sign the earlier contract, and club said that offer was no longer on the table.

By sounds of it, DeGea took the gamble to not sign the contract, and it backfired on him. That's life.

It is a pity how he left, but I guess players don't always get to leave on their own terms. Roy Keane, Beckham, Stam, Van Nistleroy, etc. all didn't get the best farewells.

For those Forest fans on here, what is Cafu like as a player? Rotherham have just signed him and the only thing I know about him is he is a defensive midfielder. He looks experienced so should be a good addition but wonder what people who have seen him play think

But do they? Selling him, much like Messi leaving, is an admission they won’t compete at the very top in a sustained manner. The club is a vanity piece for the owners and losing him is the absolute worst thing for that vanity piece. The money (whether he is sold or goes for free) is irrelevant really.

Can’t remember where or when but someone at the top of PSG has said they’re now done buying big names for big prices and will be taking a different tactic going forward.

It’s not worked for them at all, the players have no fight or desire, there’s some filthy good young French talent that will perform far better for them in the long term with a few additional key pieces thrown in.

Don’t worry he’s got a new job already

That’s exactly my understanding. Ultimately, the timing is right for all concerned.

You’re really reaching if you think that claiming Man City having the resources to produce fantastic youth players is in some way evidence against your owners sports washing their way to success.
So what your saying is that City sport washing is helping the England team 🤔😳

From a mate who is a Forest fan…

Hes ok, good enough for them, works without any good end product.

So not really sure then 🤣

It is nothing to do with the timing but the treatment. Yes it could be it is the right time to go or move on but it's about handling it correctly. I thought he was offered a new but reduced contract and he wanted ot think on it. not unusal anyone being offered lower terms at work would want to think on it. he came back with a I will sign it to which they pulled the contract and offered him an even worse one. Like that is really going to work for any employee.

The professional and correct thing to have done was when he went to sign the one they offered to say, sorry we feel it is time for us to move on and we are looking at a new GK and withdrawn the contract offer and celebrate his career with Utd. But nope let's treat hime like crap but don't worry Mr De Gea we can treat you like this because it is the right time to move on. Bravo Bravo

Next you will be saying that players should be loyal and see out their contracts instead of wanting new improved ones and then throwing toys out and demanding moves :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Contract negotiations drag on for months. If, during these convoluted discussions, De Gea’s performances were such that it became clear to the manager that the player was no longer part of his plans, withdrawing the offer and not making him a new one, or offering him one on significantly reduced terms, would seem the right thing for the club to do from a business perspective.

I have absolutely no doubt the full and accurate account will not be in the public domain. Of course, the one which shows the club in a poor light will be plastered all over the back pages.

You make it sound like Utd offered him a contract, he asked for a bit of time to think about it, came back a few days later to accept and then Utd said "no, we are not offering you that anymore". I'd be pretty confident that didn't happen.

De Gea signed for Man Utd in 2011 for £75,000 a week. In 2015 he signed an extension for £200,000 per week. In 2019 he signed an extension for £375,000 per week. So, since joining Man Utd he has earned £135.2 million.

Clearly, there have been questions about his future for a large part of the season. However, United have several positions in the squad to sort out, and goalkeeper has not necessarily been the top priority to sort out for next season. So, it seems that Utd did not want to close the door on De Gea, and offered him a new contract mid season. At same time, they didn't want to still pay him £375,000 a week, so they offered him a reduced salary. De Gea took the risk to not accept it fairly promptly, and since then his performances have added more question marks about that position. That was the risk De Gea took, and it has now backfired if he wanted to stay. Because now Utd do not think he is worth paying the amount they originally offered him. It would have been unprofessional for Utd to still offer the same contract given that things have changed, and they certainly don't want to end up with another Maguire or Jones type player at the club, on big contracts and impossible to shift.

Treating him like crap just seems to be an overly emotive reaction, and the sort of think the media love to have their readers believe. Having earnt £135.2 million from Utd, I think they have treated him pretty well over the last 12 years. De Gea is the one that chose to keep United hanging. Perhaps he should have looked to finalise everything, either way, a few weeks before the end of the season. At least he'd then know if he'd still be at the club, otherwise be able to say his farewell to the fans. Maybe De Gea was the one treating Man Utd badly, by being less willing to come to any agreement with them in a reasonable time frame?
