Really starting to despise Mourinho. Agree with others, when he is winning he can be quite charismatic and almost likeable. When he is losing, complete scumbag. Forgot he was involved when referee Frisk seemed to be forced into retirement. I can imagine Taylor would have had that reception at airport had Mourinho not fueled the fire

Had a quick read re yesterdays game and the press was focusing on what a nice guy Maureen was for throwing his medal to a boy in the crowd. 🤬

Even more are coming out now

Should be throwing the book at the club as well

But Mourinho shouldn’t be on the sideline for a long time after this

At a time when the FA are talking about increasing fines and deducting points from grassroots teams for misconduct. Football governing bodies should be throwing the book at this lot.

If they don’t they set a very dangerous precedent.
Sadly, they will fine him equivalent to 3 days wages, possibly a 2 game touchline ban and that's it (I'm making up the numbers but I suspect I wont be far out). It will have no impact on him or others and the same abuse will happen again next season. Football can stop this if it wants to, whether it has the desire to is another matter.

@Hobbit post earlier is spot on, he is a horrible individual that people need to stop admiring and see him for who he is.

Football has a culture of disrespecting officials. It is tolerated, so scenes like this are going to happen.

It could change if there was the will to do something. I'm not sure why there isn't

Playing devils advocate....and not saying I agree with any kind of abuse/threats etc but if fans actually saw refs being accountable for poor performances, maybe they'd have less reason want to take things into their own hands to show their displeasure?

Only on rare occasions are refs/assistant refs etc dropped or "punished" for being pretty awful at their jobs.... normally they just bounce from one poor performance to another with zero consequence.

In the heat of the moment I don't think the players, managers, fans etc give a hoot whether the ref will be dropped next week or not. They just want to unload on whoever it is for their team losing. Whether the ref had a good game or not is irrelevant to them, their team lost and someone has to take the stick. That football authorities have allowed this to build and build is entirely on them. In most other sports, there are the odd exception, this would never be allowed and the sanctions would be severe. Not in football though, which is why this will be repeated again next season at some point.

Not saying you’re right or wrong but I expect every single ref, without exception, makes at least one mistake in every single match. Look at it from another perspective, every single player, even the world class players, make a number of mistakes in every single match.

Football is not a game of perfect. Yes, there’s bad performances and yes VAR gets it wrong too, but we have to accept that there will be mistakes.

And a rhetorical question; how often do you hear the fans of winning teams criticising the ref? Some do but the vast majority don’t often even see an issue.

I know you are playing devil's advocate, however I think it could go the other way.

If nothing was said about referees by media / players / managers, I suspect fans would have a moan in the moment, but that anger would not be as sustainable. With mistakes talked about frequently by media, I suspect that fans the flames a bit by keeping it at the forefront. By managers abusing referees (managers than fans idolise) and openly showing their anger, I think that really intensifies the anger towards referees. And, if referees were held accountable for mistakes (how?) by other means than they do now, that further clarifies they did wrong and are being punished. That doesn't get the points back for the team that was hard done by, so I doubt it would placate fans at all. I think it would simply be another reason to abuse them.

I personally feel, as said before, the best thing would be to mic the referees up, hear them speak to players, coaching staff and the VAR. Understand why they have come up with a decision, and show the referee is a real person, not just some generic figure fans can use as a verbal punchbag. Many fans assume referees are morons, and make bad decisions because they've "never played the game", that old lazy argument. Whereas if we could hear them speak, we could at least see that they are asking the same questions that fans are, but also see the reason why they've ruled some of those out/in when making the final decision. Even if they come up with a subjective decision different to what others would think, you can still see how they came to that decision. Besides, if VAR is going to take 4 minutes to make a decision sometimes, at least hearing the officials speak will keep us entertained in the meantime.

Also, as many have also said before, instantly stop play when a player starts screaming and yelling at officials and book them. Let the rest of the world hear the referee speak, like a teacher to a primary school child, and expose what a prat the player is being. I think players would start acting more like grown ups pretty quickly, knowing they'll be heard on camera and not wanting their damage ruined by a Nigel Owens like lecture

One for Forest fans. They have released quite a number of players, as will other clubs on a smaller scale, but interestingly 2 are Henderson and Navas, their keepers. Now both were on loans so that would happen naturally but will either return? Do you have someone else lined up?

Both top keepers, big shoes to fill.

I agree with this.
But I do think most of the contentious decisions are the fault of the rules not really the ref.
He has one real time look.
Var has many angles and really should not make the kind of mistakes they have last season.

Looks like Ange is off to Spurs.
Good move for both, I expect he will do very well if he is given time.

Not for me thanks, he’s done well with respect in a Mickey Mouse League.
Look what happened to Stevie Gerard and Brendan Rogers.
Nobody seems to want the poison chalice.
I’d take Graham Potter with his back room staff from Brighton
