How has Henderson got in? Purely as an experienced head for the young pups?

Why wouldn’t Henderson be in ? Not sure who else can replace him at the moment

The likes of

Maguire , Phillips shouldn’t be near the team as they both rarely play for their team

Pope should be in so should Burn , Longstaff over Phillips as well

Unless Pope has stated he is unavailable then that is a very weird choice. Clearly second place behind Pickford imo, nothing Ramsdale has done recently suggests he is better. Saying that, being second keeper in a squad is a thankless task so maybe it will physically and mentally do him good.

Pope has just had an operation on his hand so is not available

Very good player from what I've seen of him. Only 18 years of age though so no rush to get him in.

Id like to see Jacob Ramsey for England one day but happy for him to ply his trade at U21 for now too.
Re Rico Lewis he was brought in as a full back and sometimes preferred over Kyle Walker. He then dropped into midfield when we went three at the back. He did it well, but not as well as John Stones. He has the potential to be very very good. Pep said “ he is very similar to Phillip Lahm“. personally I would like to see him develop the same way that Foden has. He has just picked up his 5 th prem league title and yet going back 3/4 years he was strongly advised to follow the same route as Jadon Sancho at Utd.

Good to see Eze in, and Sterling out (I don't mean I'm happy to personally see Sterling dropped, just that if someone had to be dropped to get Eze in, then Sterling hasn't done enough to get in).

OK, so Maguire got in, but have they left anyone out that should definitely be in instead? The bigger question will be who starts for England? Stones and Mings? Bigger questions need to be asked if Maguire starts, unless he plays the final 2 games for Utd, 2 clean sheets and scores a hat-trick in each.

Phillips is a strange one. Southgate, and Phillips, need to accept that Phillips made the choice to move to City, and has almost found himself as their Phil Jones type player, who never plays apart from a token appearance.

Given that the first game is against Malta you would like to think that Gareth will use the depths of his squad....maybe give players like Ramsdale, Dunk, Maddison, Gallagher, Eze, Saka and Wilson starts.

Hopefully he wont hide behind the "No easy games these days" cliche, because with the players we've got, we should have enough to beat Malta with something to spare.

Beginning to think no7 might be true.
at least it would explain some of the decisions

My concern about Maguire is this slump has lasted a very long time.
GS should get a fringe defender maybe a young one and give him time with the squad.
Who that is is anyone’s guess but GS dosnt seem to be able to look past his favourites.
Must have been a wrench leaving Sterling out.
But has Maguire played any more minutes than him.

I think the difference between Maguire and Phillips is that Maguire has played 15 games all season, not been injured and don’t have the trust of his manager. Phillips has played 10 games and has been injured after shoulder injury and surgery. That said, Haaland is one of a handful, of p,Ayers who has hit the ground running for CIty. One that didn’t was Grealish, look at him now.

All that said, nowt surprises me when it comes to Southgate. Coz he is like Maguire is Rammel.

So8th gate is like Tony Pulis. He might get the right result quite often but the brand of football will send you to sleep. I stopped watching Boro under Pulis, and watching England is even more painful but because it’s England I invariably watch them. I do have the Samaritans on speed dial.
