It would make sense where possible to rest those players who need it.
The tie is done and that’s all that matters.

I’m waiting for Eddie to give me a shout otherwise I’m round at 20.00 to help with plastering (I cant plaster but can help Billy with the tea).
Even though the tie is done I'm hoping that it will be entertaining enough that I don't have to resort to DIY.

It'll be interesting to see how the summer window goes given the WC however my opinion is that very little will get done beforehand so if Carrick weren't offered the job there is time for a new manager to come in and sort out potential signings.

The window opens on the 15th June which is after the WC starts and the WC finishes on the 19th July although obviously players will return home before that. I guess the issue will be if United decide they want a coach of an international side and have to wait for them to get knocked out then it could have implications. Either way though you'd expect the board to have a shortlist of players that they want and they'll be bought regardless of the manager if he's not in place at that point.
As you say, that is if, and it could be a big if, a suitable manager is appointed or available, plus if you wait too long they may join other Clubs.

As for the shortlist of players, how many times have we seen issues with players being forced on to managers and it not working.

Big Nev should be higher, Reina should not be on there, Pickford should be

De Gea at 4  Behave
He did say that if Southall had played his career in the PL, he would be right up near the top of the list. Called him the best keeper on the planet in his heyday.

I was shocked he thought De Gea was better than Van der Sar. I'm sure if you asked most Man Utd fans who their best PL keepers were, Schmeichel and Van Der Sar would be 1 and 2. De Gea would probably be 3rd (but hopefully Lammens will be up there in a few years), but a distant 3rd to our top 2.

I'm not sure about Reina myself. Pickford is probably hammered simply because he hasn't played for one of the PL teams fighting for the league title. Martinez, Lehman and Given may get votes from certain fan groups. There are keepers presently that could easily get into it in a few years time, like Donnaruma or Raya.

I was shocked that they didn't even give Onana an honourable mention :ROFLMAO:

Stats really can mess about when it gets to keepers. Reina will have better stats than Pickford because he played in a better team. I'd have Jordan every day over him. I don't say that Reina was poor but I don't think he was a top 10 keeper.

Fair point about Southall.

At best I'd have De Gea at 10, but that might be generous still.

Given is a good shout. Lloris at Spurs? It's hard to remember names, particularly if they were not at one of the bigger teams.

So Chris Kavanagh is back for united palace this weekend on sky. I very much doubt extensive training has taken place in the break. His sidekick on the line has got Watford game Friday night and back for a midweek premiere game the following week.

I think we have seen a lot of top keepers in the premier league not mentioned.
Just off the top of my head

Cudicini
David James
Harper
Friedel
Robinson
Given
Hart
Pickford
Lloris
Bosnich
Martyn

Maybe not top level but all worth a shout in discussion about top 10

I thought everyone was always slating Lloris to be honest, as a bit of a calamity keeper. Mind you, he still was picked by France, won a World Cup and came runner up in another, so he must have been pretty decent.

Yeah, stats can be misleading in some cases. Van Der Sar even pointed out that his stats include the lengthy spell he was at Fulham, and his record is still 42.17% clean sheets. I'm guessing Schmeichel's record is lower due to the often high risk attacking football Ferguson liked to play. I was surprised that Reina was so high though, as I never really remember Liverpool being in contention to win many titles back then. It was pretty much during the Man Utd v Chelsea fight for the title, and then in his final years the Man Utd versus City fight. I guess if Liverpool's defence was really solid back then, they must have had problems in attack. Although that also feels odd, given they had Torres and then Suarez

Think when it comes down to the likes of Reina and Pickford it will be personal preference

Reina was outstanding for us during the Rafa years

Given was excellent - Lloris don’t think would put him amongst the best

I was nodding in approval until I saw you wrote Bosnich 🤣

He was so overrated, though Nigel Martyn that’s great shout for and underrated keeper.
