It felt odd that Liverpool didnt try a bit harder to secure the Guehi signing. As each day passes, it feels even more bizarre. VVD isnt getting any younger.

Spend loads on a forward like Ekitike, who actually looks really good, and a player you could see in a regular starting line up. Yet continue to pursue Isak, who has become public enemy number 1 and no pre season, for crazy money

All on top of already spending a fortune on Wirtz. No matter how good he is anywhere else, always a big big risk bringing that sort of player into the physicality of the PL, when they are pretty light weight physically. Perhaps worth a punt at £50m to £70m?

I expect Liverpool to go on a decent run sooner or later, but I'm guessing he'll need to find a settled side, and that will leave one or two high value players disappointed
Guehi had already had a medical with Liverpool when Glasner threw his toys out the pram and the deal was stopped.

You missed Salah out in that summary.

His lack of effort was masked by Diaz and Nunez.

Not bothered by the cup game but it transfers when your losing.

We played well in Europe but Slot then put the players out of form back in the team that Saturday.
I just don’t get that or some of his other decisions like playing players out of position.
All the time Salah was scoring or creating goals his work rate was overlooked.
I think Liverpool have become a team with lots of good players with the ball but out of possession they look very vulnerable and teams realise that if they work hard they will have a good chance of getting a result.
Slot needs to find the balance

Klopp always put reserve teams out in the league cup early rounds. They'll be used to it by now.
Agreed.

But to the same level that Liverpool did last night? Most top sides usually play at least some of the players that we see fairly regularly in PL games, and ceratinly will often provide some good back up on the bench with some of their top players.

Last night, it felt like Slot would have been happy to pick the U12's, dinner ladies and kit men if he could.

But Liverpool knew there was always a condition that Palace would only allow Guehi to leave if they got a replacement. And, the Crystal Palace manager was ALWAYS going to be against one of his top players leaving. Most managers of any club would do the same.

Liverpool seemed completely naive or arrogant, in that they must have felt he will join their club regardless. A bit more intellegence and/or humility, they'd have realised that if they offered Palace a bit more, there would have been a point that it really wouldn't matter what Glasner did. Palace would have to sell, knowing it was too big a fee to turn down and then let him go for free in a year

Those look like reserve teams to me. It's only an issue when they lose though.

I have always thought it strange when top teams start with a weakened side against 'lower' opposition, go behind and then put the big guns on trying to chase the game. Surely it would be better to start with the big guns, get a 2 or 3 goal lead and then rest the big guns?

Maybe, just maybe, the plan is to win without using them at all? 😆

If they had bid earlier in the window, offered a decent bid, not a bid to take advantage of someone in the last year of their contract, then I am pretty sure you would have had him. Liverpool spent £400m+ in the summer but decided to be cute when it came to this one.

I somehow feel sorry for Liverpool's Amara Nallo.
16 minutes of professional football and he's already had two straight red cards!

Soon as I saw the announcement I thought “well that’s shows great ambition and a waste of money”

We should be challenging for promotion or at least the play offs. With his appointment we’ll be lucky to finish outside the bottom 4! I’m not hopeful at all, though I’d like to be wrong.

I don't know, his record at Wigan was superb in very difficult circumstances. He record at Rotherham you can probably ignore as they've hardly done much without him. They're only 2 points better off than we are this season! The issue there was a club on the way down and not a very good team.

I'd prefer to look at his work at Wigan as he was there longer and actually won League One. Not the most exciting appointment but a huge upgrade on Hunt and he's got a very experience set of coaches around him too.

I get that and that’s why I’m mildly optimistic but his recent work concerns me.

Oi!!!!! We are currently 6 games unbeaten and one of the form teams in the country at the moment:)

Even stranger when, having started with “youngsters and fringe players”, there were no big guns on the bench to bail them out.

Palace was probably a terrible draw for them too in reality, they’re a very good team atm.

They could have lost with their first team the way they are playing, had they drawn a lower league team, that youth team could have won.
