I recently found out that Sports Personality of the Year will be between McIlroy and Chloe Kelly by a friend. I said to the friend that in terms of achievement, winning the golf Grand Slam (and other events), whilst being part of the winning Ryder Cup side away from home in such a popular sport would, in normal circumstances, would beat a person who was essentially a sub, and happened to take the winning penalty for England (btw, I thought she did brilliantly, I just didn't think there was any comparison).

However, he explained to me that her achievement was in a major sport, in which BBC had it's biggest viewings for ther final, and in comparison golf is only a minor sport.

Well, if the above it true, the women have nothing to worry about. As a major sport, no doubt broadcasters and sponsors are going to invest hundreds of millions into the womens game, knowing that fans will pay money to watch them.
If Rory had won the Grand Slam then he would have been a shoe in, the fact he 'only' completed it by winning 1 tournament will mean little to most non golf fans. We are obviously biased on a golf forum golf is not a mainstream sport - and certainly not on the Beeb.

4 wins in 4 games for the Villa.

Pleased to see us playing well after European midweek games considering it was a real weakness over the last 2 seasons.

Was never worried about the poor start, knew it would start to click eventually, just a shame to not have a few more league points to this stage.

Up the Villa!

I’m probably a little late to the party, as I’ve been away, but I’ve just caught up with Saturday’s MOTD this morning.

Wayne Rooney, oh my word, what are the BBC doing employing him as a pundit? He’s borderline incoherent. Absolutely dreadful.

Can't wait to be able to watch MoTD again, hopefully that day will come soon.

They have lumped in big on him, I have no idea why. Did no one watch him before they gave him the contract?

The really worrying thing is that, on MOTD, much of what the pundits do is pre-prepared. They know what they’re going to say in analysis, and doubtless the questions coming their way are already known.

And yet Rooney stumbles over his words like a sad drunk. He’s been the same previously, before this current stint, so I agree with you. The BBC knew exactly what they were in for.

Truly, truly dreadful.

Anyhoo, back to MFC. Robbie Savage cleared off to FGR. Now I thought immediately it was because we did not have the readies available for another push to win the next league. Others just thought it was because he wasn't to further his career. Now the owner has said he is going to step back from running the place, no surprise to me, I thought at soon as his mate Robbie cleared off he would do this. Now he's come out and said, er actually I'm completely clearing off. Also, the first team manager has announced he's clearing off as well. Now, obviously no one will come out and say the real truth, so we can only speculate. But, I think I've been proven right. and the money has run out.Well not run out but is not available to get us out of the league we afre now it. We have been using players that should be two leagues above where we are, hence the league wins. But now, we cannot afford to do this. So everyone at the top has gone. A further announcement came from the remaining people left to run the place. Part of it saying something to the effect of :- we are going to get the finances of the club to what we can afford. Well that's how I read it.
I'm not often wrong and I'm right again!

You can tell why he struggled as a manager

Speaking to a mate who is a Brum fan it seems that he was unable to articulate what he wanted the players to do

It doesn’t come across as a surprise tbh - talented footballer but never the sharpest between the ears
