Also they could scrape the formation and try different tactics to suit the players better😉

Manager was very clear in his statement

If you want a different formation and tactics then they will need a different

Their 4 points after 4 games is their worse start for 35 years

Since he arrived his record is worse than any of their modern era managers

8 wins in 31 games

They have got significantly worse since he arrived

But if Utd don’t pay “the Utd tax” as you call it they won’t get the type of player they need.
Man Unt will always pay over the top for players just because they are one of the biggest clubs in world football.

Crazy the amount of money they have wasted on players wages that never fulfilled their potential.
Well, we can see what benefit it has been up to now, paying the Utd tax. I've just got the impression we've been left with a load of players, who feel like they've made it to the top of the earning potential, and have lost that drive to win. Or paid way too much for young players, paying for the potential they hope they have, but have not yet realised (and may never realise).

I'd rather the club work much much harder in identifying better players. Looking at all the options and then doing a proper cost/benefit analysis. Utd got Cunha and Mbeumo, and most seem to believe for decent value. So, there is not a necessity to pay way over the odds to get decent players, nor pay them £350,000 a week

He's the problem, not the players.

The new part owners and football set up actually look even more clueless than Ed Woodward.

Ugarte and Mainoo would work well in a 4231 and offer balance to the attack and defence. Ugarte has been hung out to dry but he's being asked to play a role he simply hasn't got the pace or the ability to play in the current set up.

Any half decent manager would have that side near the Top 4.

A massive well done to Margaret Aspinall and those that fought alongside her. Best news I’ve seen for a long time…. Wonder what the Post Office execs feel about this law?
This amazes me that there has to be an actual law to get people to tell the truth at inquiries! Beggars belief!

Don’t think there is any words or actions that will ever do her justice - she is a rock , a massive role model to anyone - her own life was ripped apart but she sacrificed herself for the truth

One day there will be justice as well

I think this window has shown that whatever you think of INEOS they are not prepared to pay that tax any more. Whilst we still spent a decent amount of money they were on players who weren't coming for the money and we paid a fee that we felt was suitable rather than being held to ransom. The regime under Woodward would have paid £100m each for Cunha and Sesko and probably brought in another striker earlier on in the window for an inflated fee with all being on massive wages. I think Baleba would have moved from Brighton had we just thrown money at them until it was too good an offer to have turned down, same for any CM at another club.

Yea it’s difficult for a club like Man United ( but don’t expect much sympathy)😂 if it’s true what you say about INEOS and they are not going to pay excessive transfer fees they will be at a disadvantage with other clubs that will pay.

Paul Scholes hit the nail
on the head when he said Man United priority should have been signing a defensive midfielder

The thinking is that we're now not going to just outbid other teams as we've done that over the last 10 years and it's just been a fiasco, this has landed us in the position of having players who aren't up to it that we're paying a hideous amount in both fees and wages as we chucked money at them. We're now only going to go after players who actually want to join the club. Sesko is a good example, he could have gone to Newcastle for a higher fee and higher wages but he wanted to join us. Apparently Mbuemo was also offered more lucrative contracts but he was a childhood United fan and he only wanted to move to us. Obviously we will miss out on players who are only going to move for the highest contract but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

With regards the defensive midfielder issue, that's definitely going to be a problem and I've always maintained that we had a good but unbalanced window. That said it was never going to be sorted in just one window and the plan is to look at it across 3-4 windows. Whether Amorim will actually be afforded that amount of time remains to be seen.

As it stands, I think Man Utd are still able to spend close to what the other top clubs spend, it is just they don't want to be spending significantly more than them. OK, they may not be able to be the biggest spenders, when they lose out on so much money through lack of success and FFP. But, despite an awful seas on last year, their gross spend was in the Top 5, nett spend 3rd. And Liverpool have effectively had 2 transfer windows in one, as they saved up a lot from last year.

Sure, if Man Utd want a player in a certain position, and another club or 2 want the same player, Man Utd may lose out if the player is in it for the money, or the instant success. Take that on the chin. But, not all the top clubs will be looking for a player in the position Utd are looking for. And there are usually going to be several very good players who could do a top job, if scouted well. So, I wouldn't be so concerned, yet, about not being able to bring in excellent players for good value. IF the board do a good job that is.

In hindsight, after 4 games, yes a great defensive midfielder would have been fantastic. But if Utd were still unable to go out and beat Arsenal and City, then there would probably be criticism why we didn't strengthen in another area. And, could we guarantee that whichever defensive midfielder we brought in would be an definite improvement, or would they struggle early on?

Scholes also said something that I had been thinking about for ages. Donnarumma. When he was available, I was shocked to find out how young he was. Lots of talk about Martinez, but did Man Utd even try to look at Donnarumma? I'm with Scholes, I hope they did and he simply said he wasn't interested. Fair enough. But, if they didn't even try, then I would be gobsmacked, as he comes across as an excellent keeper, and he has another decade in him at a high level. And his transfer fee was only £26 million

From what I gather it was simply down to wages, he was on (reportedly) £500k a week at PSG and City were prepared to pay similar. Whilst the fee wasn't an issue for United we just simply weren't prepared to pay that sort of salary.
