I wouldn't say it was that dramatic, it was just a post on a golf forum. What would be more dramatic would be if I earned £120,000 a week, yet refused to do any work for my employer :)

Newcastle have done a hell of a lot for Isak, in fairness. He wasn't just some lovely guy who decided to donate his time and effort to Newcastle for charity after all. They very much gave him the platform to show what he can do, helped develop him, and paid him decent money

All true BUT he helped them qualify for the CL twice and won a trophy. And they've made a £60m profit on him. Without him I doubt they would've managed any of that as he was a game changer.

The vast majority of footballers are loyal to their bank account and trophy potential. Their careers will revolve around both of those.

People bigging up Guehi now are probably naive. He will be thinking another year and then he gets a huge sign on fee and bigger wages.

I literally said he would do that earlier today. No issue with it either.

He is honouring his contract, but made his intentions clear. He was happy for the club to sell, or not. He hasn't screwed anyone over

No one is denying Isak's contribution to Newcastle. But that doesn't mean they have to accept it gives him the right to act as he did. Nor believe every footballer would do the same.

Isak has taken some serious flak for the way he forced a sale. I’m not arguing either way, it’s been done to death. But if a club decides to sell a player halfway through his contract, are they honouring the contract?

It’s just a rhetorical question really, but it does seem a little one sided…

They can set up a transfer but the player doesn't have to agree to it. They can sit tight if the want to, back to good old Winston Bogarde 😄, amongst others

Sancho has left the building ........................... and relax.

The fees have largely been negligible, but by getting Sancho, Rashford, Garnacho and Antony off the wage bill I’d say, in terms of outgoings, this has been the most successful window in years at OT. They set out to shift some real problem players, and have managed to get the business done.

Time will tell when it comes to signings. I am concerned when it comes to Lammens, but the club have taken a punt on youth. His stats measure up, especially when it comes to crosses claimed, which has been a significant headache for too long. And he sounds like a shot stopper. We will see if he can hit the ground running, but in Onana and Bayindir we have a calamitous pair. Surely the lad can’t be worse.

Don’t forget “ you don’t win anything with Kids “ 😂😂

The player might refuse the move but the club might tell him to go train with the kids…
I would say that when a player signs a contract, it doesn't mean he is entitled to being a regular starter who the club will want for the entirety of his contract. The player has to work hard and fulfil the potential the club saw in him.

If the player fulfils that potential, at some point they get a contract extension and higher wage. Or they get a big money transfer somewhere else.

If the player doesn't fulfil that potential, then obviously the club should look for solutions to get them out. But ultimately they can't refuse to pay him. So the player does not have to leave, and the club have to honour their end of the contract, which is to maintain his salary.

In extreme cases, players are asked to train with the kids. But that is usually when it is deemed the player's attitude stinks. If the player isn't good enough, but a great pro, trains hard and doesn't whine and moan, then they are probably left to train with the first team whilst they are still at the club.

And your point?

Maybe you didn’t read the point I was making about a comparison between Isak’s behaviour and that of clubs who are looking to move a player on mid-contract. Two wrongs don’t make a right but I’m sure we’ve all seen players frozen out - it’s called the sickening process in industry, i.e. make someone want to move. The best and most recent example of that was Ten Hag’s treatment of Maguire.

But thanks for your explanation, I’d never thought of that…

Wouldn’t the PFA get involved if that happened?
You’re correct it can work both ways,if a club did this to try & force the player to move I’d expect them to get the same criticism as Isak has been getting.

Joe Hart was talking to Chris Sutton about the exact thing

Club will point towards players honouring contracts but won’t think twice about that contract when trying to offload unwanted players

Chelsea with Sterling for example or United with Sancho etc - both spent millions buying them offering big contracts but want both off the books to help them

You missed my point then.

I will repeat. Player signs a contract doesn't mean they are entitled to playing in first team, or that the club must keep them until end.

What is wrong with Maguire situation? There came a point where he wasn't in first team, and Utd were happy for him to leave. West Ham were happy to buy him. But, Maguire decided to stay at Utd, as he was still under contract. He wasn't forced to train with kids. He was a truly great professional, and ultimately got back in the side and did well

Maguire may be the worst example to use to support your point.

Got to be the most vile player of all time.
I wonder if that is a sackable offense?

Don't watch Inter Miami, but I'd assume at the age of 38, Suarez is perhaps not at the club purely on his ability and what he can bring to the side on the pitch. But more to do with his big profile and how he helps put Inter Miami on the map? Therefore, spitting in people's faces seems to go against nearly every reason why he is at the club, as it tarnishes Inter Miami's image rather than enhances it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Inter Miami try to cancel his contract if they legally can, and I'm sure there couldn't be too many fans that would criticize them for that.

You what? He's scored 38 goals for them in under two years. MLS defenders are awful, he's still very much good enough there.
