The reports are he stopped the dealLots of unknowns here, but IF the manager has put his foot down and stood up for himself and the club’s short term interests, then I say good for him.
This strikes me as poor planning by the club. They’ve known all summer long that Liverpool were likely to make a move, in the event another club didn’t, and yet appear to have done very little to have a contingency, leaving it until the last 50 minutes of the window to get a suitable deal done.
Combine that with the fact they have a manager who everyone knows won’t stick around if his employers don’t back him 100%, then I’m astonished Palace got themselves in this mess.
It’s long overdue a club refused to sanction a last minute deal and told a player he had to stay put. And whilst there is no doubt Guehi will be gone in the summer, I fully expect he will honour the remainder of his contract with the integrity he has shown to date.
You seem to have missed the point
Liverpool didn’t “accept it” they were forced into it,just like Newcastle have with Isak![]()

Agree on Guehi , there is no doubt he will continue to act in the same integrity he had last summer and so far this season
Palace will get a season out of him but it’s a financial hit for the club that’s going to affect any manager coming in
Sorry but I find that hard to believe. The reports are he stopped the deal

Yes it’s a financial hit, but clubs plan for the eventuality that contracts wind down. Palace will survive.

Yeah or thatOr we’ll buy him for £100m, stick him on a ludicrous long term contract, destroy him as both a player and human being, and then spend years trying to sell him at a knock down price.
Coutinho deal was amazing. Funded Salah, VVD and a few others....
Remember you telling us Liverpool wouldn’t spend £100m on one player even after the Caicedo bid?
On the flip side...Newcastle took a chance on a striker who had a less than stellar record in Spain, coached him, improved him and allowed him to shine on one of the biggest stages in domestic league football. Isak has arguably got just as much out of Newcastle (especially now with his transfer to Liverpool and the wages he is now no doubt on) as Newcastle have got out of him.Isak gave a lot for Newcastle and helped them win their first trophy in 60 odd years? It might've ended on a sour note but Newcastle have done well out of him and should accept they can't compete when a giant comes knocking. They held out for the higher fee and everyone is happy.

Yes when giants come knocking Newcastle cant compete at the moment, years of non-investment by fat Mike has ensured that we are nowhere near where we could be, in terms of commercial off pitch revenue generation....but that will change, albeit not as quickly as the fanbase might want it to.

I wouldn't say it was that dramatic, it was just a post on a golf forum. What would be more dramatic would be if I earned £120,000 a week, yet refused to do any work for my employerThis is a bit dramatic!
I'm sure both will sleep fine. It's hardly Sol Campbell lying, running his contract down and moving to his biggest rivals on a free.

Slott has a tough job trying to keep all those attackers happy now.
