Lots of unknowns here, but IF the manager has put his foot down and stood up for himself and the club’s short term interests, then I say good for him.

This strikes me as poor planning by the club. They’ve known all summer long that Liverpool were likely to make a move, in the event another club didn’t, and yet appear to have done very little to have a contingency, leaving it until the last 50 minutes of the window to get a suitable deal done.

Combine that with the fact they have a manager who everyone knows won’t stick around if his employers don’t back him 100%, then I’m astonished Palace got themselves in this mess.

It’s long overdue a club refused to sanction a last minute deal and told a player he had to stay put. And whilst there is no doubt Guehi will be gone in the summer, I fully expect he will honour the remainder of his contract with the integrity he has shown to date.
The reports are he stopped the deal

Agree on Guehi , there is no doubt he will continue to act in the same integrity he had last summer and so far this season

Palace will get a season out of him but it’s a financial hit for the club that’s going to affect any manager coming in

We were always going to come back in for him after the first bid was turned y down

You seem to have missed the point 😬

Liverpool didn’t “accept it” they were forced into it,just like Newcastle have with Isak 👍🏻

They held out and got silly fees for both. Newcastle have done the same with Isak.

Man Utd did the same with Ronaldo back in 2009.

It's the football food chain.

Yes it’s a financial hit, but clubs plan for the eventuality that contracts wind down. Palace will survive.

Sorry but I find that hard to believe.
If that was Fergie back in the day then yes.
But nah I’m not having that.

Palace have made over £100m on Olise and Eze in the last year alone.

They absolutely mugged us for £8m on Olise due to some dodgy release clause that ended up getting people suspended from football. Eze was signed for £19m and sold for a £45m profit.

Isak gave a lot for Newcastle and helped them win their first trophy in 60 odd years? It might've ended on a sour note but Newcastle have done well out of him and should accept they can't compete when a giant comes knocking. They held out for the higher fee and everyone is happy.
On the flip side...Newcastle took a chance on a striker who had a less than stellar record in Spain, coached him, improved him and allowed him to shine on one of the biggest stages in domestic league football. Isak has arguably got just as much out of Newcastle (especially now with his transfer to Liverpool and the wages he is now no doubt on) as Newcastle have got out of him.

Yes when giants come knocking Newcastle cant compete at the moment, years of non-investment by fat Mike has ensured that we are nowhere near where we could be, in terms of commercial off pitch revenue generation....but that will change, albeit not as quickly as the fanbase might want it to.

I’m glad it’s over

It’s not been a nice transfer and will leave a sour taste for many

Before this the relationship between Liverpool and Newcastle has always been good but the transfer has bred a lot of nasty stuff which I hope is just on social media and that it’s not something that will fester

Looking forward to seeing how the big German goes - reckon he might be a star

And hopefully the next transfer drama doesn’t include us 😂

Definitely, the best moves are always two way ones. Newcastle gave him the chance and he took it. You're both in a better position than you were the day he signed, so win win.

I lived in Durham back in 2013 and have a soft spot for Newcastle, great city and people. Would love to see you keep building and challenge for the title.

This is a bit dramatic!

I'm sure both will sleep fine. It's hardly Sol Campbell lying, running his contract down and moving to his biggest rivals on a free.

Slott has a tough job trying to keep all those attackers happy now.
I wouldn't say it was that dramatic, it was just a post on a golf forum. What would be more dramatic would be if I earned £120,000 a week, yet refused to do any work for my employer :)

Newcastle have done a hell of a lot for Isak, in fairness. He wasn't just some lovely guy who decided to donate his time and effort to Newcastle for charity after all. They very much gave him the platform to show what he can do, helped develop him, and paid him decent money
