I watched his performances for Dortmund and he looked ok. Didn't set the world on fire initially when he same to Utd but was willing to give him some time.
However it soon became obvious that there was nothing he was offering that Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood weren't already doing and better at it as well. Rarely beat a man, his shooting was iffy and final ball lacking.

The Greenwood issue hit you really had. He was superb and will be a £100m player next summer IMO.

I think the plan in 2021 was to move Rashford up front and play Greenwood on right and Sancho on the left. Then Ronaldo was a last minute signing and ruined all that.

Best young player I've seen at Utd since probably, Scholes. But what's done is done

Which is exactly what I said at the time, and why I always maintain Ronaldo was not a player Solskjaer wanted. It made no sense at all, given the lengthy pursuit of Sancho, and the emergence of Greenwood.

The penalty discussion covers up the reality, Everton were pants last night. The first half was pure Dyche, the second not much better. One shot on target all night is not good enough against a newly promoted team. Leeds didn't even have to defend well.

Small positives, Ndyiae continued his excellent form when given the ball, Grealish protected the ball beautifully and never wasted it. Watch and learn other players please.

Huge improvement required on Sunday, as much my Moyes and the set up as by the players.

Should have at least called him to have another look.
Where is he supposed to put his arm.?
He does lean a bit but that’s a natural movement to block the ball .
Are we surprised VAR again.

Shocking game though .
I've seen people say it was never a penalty. I've seen people say it is definitely a penalty.

I didnt see it, but given the different opinions, it seems totally correct that VAR did not get involved. Otherwise the ones that did think it was a penalty would complain that VAR should not be sticking it's nose in and trying to re-referee the game.

Stick with onfield decision, get on with the game.

Aye, Everton will need to shape themselves if they don't want a rerun of last season. I could start to list everything that was wrong but haven't got time.
Our kid, who's an Evertonian was bereft last night

Well if that’s how it works might as well get rid of VAR

We weren't the only team to look disjointed first game up. If we look the same after 4-5 games then I'll start to revisit the horrors of recent years. At this point I'm putting it down to rustiness and excessively negative tactics.

Anyway, we are 14th in the table, could be worse 😂

I suspect that VAR did get involved. They would have had a check and decided that it was a penalty so no need to go any further. They check so much more than people realise during a game and not just when when the game is stopped for 5 minutes at a time.

I just watched it, assuming from the reports that it would be horrific.
I can't see how it possibly couldn't be a penalty.

Admittedly the angles I saw in the footage weren't the best and admittedly stills don't tell the full story.

But in the still below, at the point of impact he's slightly turning away, his arm is down by his side with minimal protrusion from his body and his lower arm is behind his thigh.

I've seen FAR more obvious ones not given. Appears the only thing consistent with the handball rule is that it's inconsistently applied.

Whether this one was a penalty isn't a hill I'm willing to die on, but I thought it was harsh.

I also hadn't seen it last night and have only just done so and it wasn't nearly the controversial decision that I was expecting. I can see why it was given as it's a fair distance from the ball when it's struck and he moves his arm towards the ball. You could argue that Pickford would have saved it had he left it however he probably didn't want to take that risk. The other thing I'd add is that in the immediate aftermath Tarkowski looked pretty guilty, like he knew what was coming.

Very impressed by the Leeds midfielder, Tanaka, last night. Anyone familiar with the Championship last season? Was he that good all last year as well?
As a Leeds fan, yes, I'm more than familiar with the Championship! And yes, Tanaka was brilliant all last season too.
It took him a couple of games to get used to the speed of it after being in Germany but he adapted well.
I was a bit concerned that he might struggle with the physicality in the Prem but he seemed to cope ok last night.
Re the penalty, I was at the game and in real time it looked as if Tarkowski dived to save it. It definitely looked a deliberate attempt to stop the shot.
VAR was definitely involved too. It took them a couple of minutes to confirm the decision.
