Great effort from Villa.
Chances missed though ( Konsa)
Donnarumma some very good saves.

But I think two very avoidable early goals did for them.
Great watch though enjoyed it.

Donnarruma was the difference at Anfield and tonight imo.
Fabulous saves in both games.

The funny thing is he's been getting a lot of stick and PSG are looking to replace him due to poor performances....

I think it's a case of getting bored in their league and then he comes alive when it matters.

Like a lot of great keepers .
Nothing to do for 89 mins then pull off a world class save.

Just reading an article on the Beeb football page about Amorim has a decision to make about Onana. Within the article was a mention of how much Utd owe the bank, £400m, for transfers. At current business rates, that’s £24m a year in interest payments.

I know businesses try to run balanced budgets but £24m going out of a business! Put another way, do the transferees cover their costs via their performances? And if the raw materials you buy don’t give a quality, finished product give them the raw materials, coaching, to perform. If it’s still not happening, get rid.

Well, the dust has settled a bit after last night and I'm still immensely proud of my club.

Champions league record at Villa Park was absolutely incredible, 1 draw and we won every other game.

Desperate to be back in Europe next season at any level, we have to maintain this for as long as possible to keep growing.

A league campaign to now focus on and hopes of an FA cup too. Still so much to play for!

Up the Villa!

It will be interesting to see how Villa react to last nights result...especially with two immediate matches against rivals for European qualification. Newcastle have kicked on since winning the league cup but I wonder what might have happened if we'd lost the final and how that might have affected league form. With the exception of Newcastle, all of the clubs chasing those European qualification spaces have other distractions...

Villa, Forest and Man city all have the FA Cup in their vision....and no matter who you are, it is a trophy that you should want to win and be doing all you can to win.

Chelsea obviously have the Conference League but to be fair, they should win that with their eyes closed. Fiorentina are probably their biggest threat but they wouldn't meet them until the final.

Arsenal have showed some patchy league form of late and a Semi Final against PSG will take a lot of their attention...that is assuming they will complete the job tonight... heaven forbid what might happen if Madrid turn over the deficit...I don't imagine that Arsenal would suffer a total collapse in form, but 2nd place in the PL is not a foregone conclusion and anyone playing them should be looking to take advantage of any hesitancy.

Its going to be an interesting few weeks as teams balance their league fixtures with other "distractions".

I suppose the FA cup isn't much of one after one more gameweek, the final is played at the end of the season.

Being out of the CL should help Villa, 2 more busy weeks and we move to 1 game a week to see out the season. Our performances when thats happened this season have been so much better than following midweek games.

Someone's going to miss out, but depending on who wins the FA cup, 8 teams can be in Europe next year of some kind thanks to league finish position - I think we all have European football coming, its just the level!

Id happily take Europa League now if offered, we could have a great crack at that!

What was interesting about last nights game was Rashford, for me anyway.

Up until the third goal, he looked just as frustrating as he did when he has worn a Man Utd shirt. Gets into positions, and then just runs into blind alleys, gifting possession too easily, too often. But, he was immense for that 3rd goal, and showed just what he has the potential to do. Even just before that goal, it was Rashford that forced the corner with a really good move and shot.

Had that 3rd goal not happened, I could easily see Rashford being subbed. However, after the 3rd goal I was really really surprised that he was subbed, unless he was shattered? I felt his confidence would be sky high, and the PSG defence terrified. Thought Villa may look to keep him on, stick him wider, and then bring Watkins on for someone else.

It's not so much the number of fixtures the added comps generate, it is more the mental effect on players who perhaps dont "commit" quite as much, for fear of picking up injuries. It only takes a small 5% drop off in performance to have an effect.

Which is definitely what we have seen across our league campaign.

Just need to look at all of our results following CL games - pretty much all losses or draws - and a lot of them against teams we would expect to take points from these days.

Think we were all a bit surprised to see him come off and not just be moved to the left - but in Emery we trust.

Rashford has been immense for us, he's not yet firing in loads of goals but he's exactly what we needed to bring in - I hope we activate the clause and sign him permanently in summer.

So do I. 😬
