A lot of the time, someone who is labelled a flop is appreciated by their own fans because they can see them putting the work in and not being rewarded. I remember years back Soldado was ostensibly a flop for Spurs, but I remember him playing really well, working hard, had a few assists, but the goals simply wouldn't come for him. Probably similar here for Núñez.
Working hard hasn't normally been a reason not to label someone as a flop though, if they just don't have the quality that matches the price tag. I never accused Antony of not working hard when he is on the pitch, but his quality is lacking and being labelled a flop is hard to argue against. Plenty have loved to label Maguire a flop, but he seems to have always put in the work and been decent professional.

I'm sure Ugarte works hard, didn't stop a particular person on this forum confidently writing him off after one game. I was simply making the point that had a player like Ugarte signed for Liverpool, and had a horrific debut (thinking along the lines of Woodgate for Real Madrid), then the same person probably wouldn't have been so eager to publicly write him off so hastily.

Spot on.
I’d say most players that flop it’s not through lack of effort.

The player's own fans can usually see the difference though because they watch the player a hell of a lot more. Some have 'flopped' due to just being unlucky while others were not good enough.

I see that and raise you Tanguy Ndombele.

Or the players own fans don’t want to admit they’ve spent a fortune on a dud 😉

Been meaning to ask this since the weekend - Man U fans, what are your thoughts on Andre Onana overall? How is he viewed by the fanbase?

As an outsider looking in, he seems like a bit of a calamity - especially when you consider his price tag. Against Forest he gifted us the second goal and arguably could have done much better on the other two. Then at the end he farcically wasted an entire Fergie Minute by trying to S-house an extra few yards of ground on a free-kick, which he ended up making a complete pig's ear of.

However, I'm aware that was just a single performance and I don't watch him week in, week out. Any player can have a mare of a game. What are your views on him? Is he worth the £43 million you paid for him?

Why would non MU fans want rid of him? Keep him there :ROFLMAO:

In all seriousness, he isn't a flop but he isn't that good. He isn't someone other fans wish was in their team. The price tag wasn't his fault but he doesn't come close to matching it.

Personally, I quite like him. He had a horrendous start to his Man Utd career, big errors in Champions League costing us. But, he was fairly solid for the rest of the season, but those high profile errors would never be forgotten, especially by pundits and opposition fans.

This season he has been good, and I think his error against Forest (diving out of the way of ball, albeit he didn't predict the swerve) was his first big talking point against. But, most keepers have bad moments. Allison has had many. Martinez last night made a big one. But, as Onana plays for a side that is playing relatively poorly and a high profile side media love to talk about, his errors will get strung up for all to see, and few will give him credit for all the games he is solid in.

Not saying he is one of the goalkeeper greats, and he certainly needs to be part of a consistent solid defence to help prove he can be part of a good organized structure. But, I quite like him and wouldn't automatically assume a different keeper would suddenly make a huge positive difference to Man Utd. But, there are plenty of other areas on the pitch that Utd need to sort out first, that's for sure as far as I see it.

Running very low on confidence right now

Needs to get a goal under his belt carrying on working hard and being part of the reason why we are doing well
We can’t fault the lads effort.

But he just lacks the finishing prowess of a top striker.
The service to him is hit and miss at times ,but when he gets chances he really needs to take them.

Jotta is injury prone and I think Slot will be looking for a striker.
I hope so anyway.

I forgot about Jotta, confirming the injury element. He is a top finisher, he would add something to most teams. Shame he can't stay fit.
