Because the cupboard is empty. I have no doubt that, had McTominay been fit, he would have played ahead of Casemiro in central defence.

There literally is nobody else fit.
That’s why I asked if there are any younger players who could play there?
Surley a club of UTDs size has a young CB.

I remember Liverpool playing Henderson CB he did ok but the young lads did well when finally given a chance.

Yes, Willy Kambwala .................................. but he's injured.

Congratulations to former #ManCity players Felix Nmecha, Jadon Sancho, and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens on reaching the 2024 #UCL Final with Borussia Dortmund, knocking out PSG. 👏

So only one young CB apart from the first team squad?
I think you are over-estimating how easy it is for young footballers to just jump into the starting 11 at a Premier League club, let alone a club that gets so much attention on it?

Take a kid who has been playing in the youth set up, alongside many team mates he has grown up with for a few years, and plays against other kids week in, week out. Then, out of nowhere, suddenly tell them "right, your coming with us to start at Selhurst Park in the Premier League, against players like Eze, Olise and Mateta. Be ready for the eyes of millions to be on you, to be thrust in a very weakened side that lacks confidence, good luck"

I've no idea how good the young CBs are at Man Utd. Maybe one or two might make it, but many never make it, at least at the top level. So, to assume Man Utd have a 17/18 year old already there, ready to jump into the Premier league and do a good job for Man Utd would certainly be incredible wishful thinking on my part.

Casemiro as Centre Back is nowhere near ideal, but he should be experienced and good enough to do the role. It isn't exactly a new concept for a defensive midfielder to play as a CB in such circumstances. But, sadly, I think he keeps surprising us all by some of his recent decision making. But, he is the best of limited options, or in reality the only option right now. Unless he gives Amrabat a go, but I've no idea what he is doing in training to indicate he isn't good enough to make the side?

Talk about glory hunting! :ROFLMAO: Sancho was at City for 2 years about 7 years ago, are you really trying to claim credit for that?

Wish there was a tongue in cheek emoji to show that I was joking!
Fancy spoiling the bad boy image 😂
Joking aside, that was copied from a fan page I follow. There are a fair old few ex academy players that are playing at a very good level that never made the grade at City. Tommy Doyle looks like staying at Wolves and there will be a rush for the Fulham centre half’s signature this summer.

Yes I just can’t belive they havnt got anyone better than Cassimero to play CB.
ETH should bring his boots! 😉
They do.

Martinez, Varane, Maguire, Lindelof, Kambwala and Shaw. But, all 6 of those are injured.

You are right in what you said though, a solid investigation into why so many injuries will be a priority. Some are just the usual bad luck, but overall I wonder if some players are just too brittle or is there something in the training that causes it?

Or, and I think this is more likely, something wrong with the rehabilitation processes.
Both Martinez and Malacia have had a second surgery for the same problem that caused them to require the initial surgery.
