English teams account for almost a third of a record $888m (£702m) spent on agents' fees in international transfers in 2023, says a Fifa report.

£222million Absolutely staggering amount. Some rich agents out there and this does not include UK moves eg Rice

Hearing those figures just makes me angry. It really is criminal.

Kudus .. what a player

ETH really thought Antony was the one from Ajax to bring to united 🤣

On the flip side he won't be with us long.

I didn’t say it was an easy group. They are big names, but not great teams this season.

1 point from their last 4 group games was not a great performance, no matter how people want to paint it.
How many times does the Champions League have 3 or 4 "great" teams on current(ish) form? There was hardly going to be a group with Man City, Bayern and Real Madrid that Newcastle would have to slot into.

Besides, Newcastle are not a "great" team themselves, not yet. I'm sure they'd have liked to have done better, but still were not a mile off in a group that consisted of 3 other very good sides. Even if they are not at the legendary status they were at one time.

It is not like they failed in a group consisting of Galatasary and Copenhagen

Boom top of the group

Good performance

Rested a few players at the end aswell

Very proud of the villa boys so far this season.

Topped the group in the ECL so get a bye through the next round straight into the last 16 - 2 less games to play.

Sat in the top 4 and going well in the league, tough test with 2 players banned this coming Sunday though.

Managing the European games and league games very well, we are yet to go full strength XI in the ECL - its all about keeping the players fresh.

When you consider how much some sides struggle domestically when they get Europe for the first time in years, I think it just makes us look even better.

UTV!

Not a wasted place in Europe then. 😉
Joking aside could well be a massive plus having the manager who may well be a bit European savvy 👍

Where have we been all season?! That was the best game i think i have seen from us in a long time.

1st half especially looking to attack and be positive whenever we had the ball!

Now let us hope the same team turns up against Wolves!

That's the thing it's there.. that's why I don't want Moyes out or anything like that. We can do these performances

We did It against arsenal In the cup

Not wasted at all! Quite proud of all the English sides topping their Europa League groups and us in the ECL, certainly shows the strength of the EPL

He certainly is very European savvy!

Our midweek teams seem to always include a solid spine but he mixes up the players around that - including the keeper!

Id expect to start seeing closer to full strength sides in the knock out games in the new year.

What is truly criminal is that the clubs pay these fees. Never understood how the player employs someone to negotiate their contract and get a better deal at the expense of the club and the club ends up paying this agent for doing them over in the negotiations.

Me either - I always thought agents should be paid by the players to be honest. They're the ones hiring them!

Unfortunately I do know, the clubs and players gave them too much power and the simple fact is now you need to agree to pay the agent fee before the player will even talk about a transfer to a club. If the club will not pay it, they take their player elsewhere. Also why you get unqualified family members raking it in as agents as they need to do very little but get the massive fee anyway. Also why those agents are always looking to tout their player/relative to another club as that is where the big bucks come from, not from extending contracts.

Would not take much for FIFA to ban the payments to agents by clubs but will never happen.

Just outta interest for the neutrals. There’s been discussion about how many places in the champs league for prem league clubs for next year. I honestly don’t know the answer to this next conundrum, but. Am sure there is a UEFA ruling that if an owner had two clubs that qualify for the champs league. Only one can enter because of the prospect of cheating. Reason I say that. Girona who are top of La Liga are owned by the City group. If City finish below Girona will they qualify for the champs league or will that spot go to another Prem league team. Watch this space. 😳👍

More VAR rubbish. Yellow card challenge all day, but ref is asked to look at the screen, where in slow motion and out of context it obviously looks worse than it is - and feels like he has to change his decision. *Sigh* I guess this is football now.
