Ferguson didn’t speak to the BBC for years, and he had skin like a rhinoceros!

Fergie had the benefit of a high performing team, a good connection with the fans and discipline within the dressing room.

From the outside, and with very limited info, it looks like Utd are currently failing at almost every level - on the pitch, in the dressing room, on the training ground and within the various managerial levels/depts.

When you start banning the local press, MEN, and the biggest football outlet in the country, Sky, then you are on a slippery slope. You need to engage with news outlets, particularly the local ones, not fight them. It shows a very thin skin.
I'm actually happy Utd made a stand. If Sky were happy to go mad reporting that over 50% of the dressing room were against the manager to the rest of the world, based on the word of their source(s), then perhaps they should have looked to investigate further. Based on what I said before, it just seems like irresponsible journalism. It is easy to report such stories, whilst protecting their sources. And these stories can be very damaging, and may be absolute rubbish and the opinion of one or two frustrated players within the club.

There has to be some trust between the media & the club but, equally, reporting needs to be unimpeded by the club. Is the club telling the truth? Why would 4 news outlets unilaterally (independently?) run the same article very much against the run of their normal interactions with the club? Has media relations already broken down, hence why those outlets ran the story?

We may never know but I think there’s more to the story than 4 media outlets running off unilaterally.

The outdatef 3pm blackout is there to protect the lower leagues and rightly so. Imagine the outcry if that blackout gets removed?

You're not wrong there, It's about time the telly clappers started getting fleeced instead.

To make it fair, remove the blackout and make every game available on TV for the same price as the highest General Admission ticket at that club.

The lower league argument I'm sorry is complete balderdash

People don't stop going to see Dagenham live because spurs are on the TV

People are either fans of their local clubs or go because it's simply a good day out with friends.. a few of my mates go down hornchurch for example as it's cheap and a way to watch football as premier league is so expensive

Hell, I’ll watch a local ‘park’ match if I’m passing. We’ve got 3 decent semi-pro clubs within 10km. I see all of them at different times, and in the ex-pats supporters club for one of them.

That's really brilliant, people just enjoy going to watch a game.

Plus how many actual 3pm premier league games are there these days? About 4 a week maybe? Considering you have your Friday night, sat lunch times, evenings. Sundays etc (lots of clubs Thursday Sunday to fit in Europe)

Their really isn't the need for the 3pm black out anymore.

Isnt it more to do with how many 3PM lower league matches there are, rather than 3PM premier league games?

Presumably the source is the same for all media outlets. Whoever is leaking information to the press is probably unlikely to give exclusive rights to any one media outlet. Rather, I'm sure they'd only be too happy in shouting their mouths off to any media organisations they can get in touch with, and hope as many of them report their story as possible. There are 4 media outlets that chose to run with the story, although we don't know how many decided not to bother.

Not really ... Unless the TV had them all on 3pm Saturday having less games at 3pm Saturday anyways boosts lower league potential fans as people are more available to watch.

Surprised the premier league hasn't simply moved to 1530 kick offs and sold all the rights.

The law is actually something like no live football between 2.45pm - 5.15pm

A few years ago Sky couldn't show the first half of El Classico because of this

With Europe teams playing a lot of Sundays now (least 3 clubs in the Thursday league a season) plus midweek games this week, which means clubs play again Sunday . Your Friday night kick offs, Monday night football "super Sunday" I'm surprised Saturday 3pm hasn't been binned the league.. and @Stuart_C I'm sure you will agree how much do clubs actually give a rats for the match going fan when it comes to picking game times? Because 3pm Saturdays works best for most no? Yet it's the fan that's thought of last anyways I'm just surprised the clubs haven't binned them off

I'll guarantee you its not. Ask any football league chairman and im sure they would all 100% disagree with you.The Lower leagues rely on the casual fan attending paying £20+ to get in aswell as what they spend at the food and drink kiosk.

If the 3pm blackout goes and every game is televised the costs would be astronomical for the broadcaster. In turn you the punter would pick up the bill.

The consequences of the blackout would also mean a lesser split of TV money to the teams outside the top 6. It would be like Turkeys voting for Xmas or the British people voting for brex......

There's a real appetite for the top 6 clubs to control their own TV deals just like in Spain, this would be catastrophic for clubs like yours.
The blackout for me is 1 step closer to this.

The last point i want to make is match going fans are already messed about with stupid KO times as it is, with the few 3pm KO teams get, they will be the ones who will have to suck it up because PJ87 wants to watch a game from the comfort of his home.

As per your last point I raised it exactly in my post above..the clubs don't give two hoots about match day going fans.

I think its just time to accept United are rotten and destined for mid table mediocrity for a number of years.

Welcome to being a normal football fan. Pain and suffering.
I think there is only one man that could sort out the Mess at Utd. Zinedine Zidane.

if people think there is a 3 pm black out on a Saturday they need to give there heads a serious wobble. Two words Fire stick.
whether that means lower clubs may suffer, they might already be suffering, personally I don’t know

Exactly. £80 a year (or so I'm told. Honestly I don't actually have one but been offered a fair few times.. just litterally don't have the time to watch that many) for all the football games, movies etc

The demand is there. The supply is available.. legalised then it can be profit

Doesn't stop people going to lower leagues when got £80 can see it all

£80 would get you two rooms I am told. It’s massively wrong but clubs, FA, Premier league have took the Micky out of the fans for a generation and if fans want to watch there clubs they will find a way.How many times have folk been on holiday and watched a game via a dodgy box, yet not given it a second thought.

Have to honestly admit I don't bother with the box because if the rare time I am available to watch a game that's not on sky , tnt etc I can find a link on my phone or laptop and stream it for nothing

Hasn't cost the lower leagues a penny as I wasn't going there anyways

I was most likely assisting a 3 year old to put a dress on a doll
