That might happen, what I think will happen though is the Saudis will have some kind of super league similar to the ill fated breakaway that the top sides in Europe tried to form.

I think in 5 years time football will be a lot different to what we know it now, it might be a blessing let all the so called big clubs bugger off and let the rest of the clubs enjoy football 😂

That had also crossed my mind. The Spanish clubs are desperate for a big cash deal and one that would bring them equal funding to the premier league teams as the revenue would be evenly split.

Talk among Premier League clubs of a salary cap based on revenue (very sensible) will be the trigger for the 'big clubs' to do their own thing.

A salary cap is a great idea if you own a football club.
Not so much if it's your salary being capped.
Let's not let rich people get rich at labour's expense (small l)

The proposal does not cap individual salaries. What it does is cap the total salary bill and so the club can pay whatever salaries they like but cannot pay more than a percentage of what they earn, which seems sensible. From the last report I heard it is not exactly restrictive, Man United for example would be a few million quid under the cap if imposed now.

Would be interesting to know which clubs would currently be over the proposed salary cap

It’s interesting re FFP and salary caps etc. would it work. Well as a City fan if FFP is anything to go by no it won’t. And personally I don’t think it should. Companies go bust every day. Football got rid of fan’s priorities years ago. Look at Rugby. Salary cap don’t do that any good.
Barca and Real want more money. What so La Liga can be a two horse race for the next hundred years.
So were United, Tash.
again that’s another area of the club that’s neglected.

As a City fan you should be utterly ashamed of both your owners and the way your club has conducted itself financially but you seem happy to ignore these things for success. And therein lies the problem; so many people feel the way you do.

Think they need to concentrate on The Group stage first!!
Man Utd are 150/1 to win the Premier League and 40/1 to win the Champions League. Should I stick a tenner on an accumulator bet???? Na, maybe not.

I find it weird Chelsea are worse than us at the minute. I've seen a few Chelsea games, and they seem to play really well for large parts of many of them. They just seem to be terrible at sticking it in the net. Whereas Utd have been awful in pretty much every game, and also awful at putting it in the net, although mainly due to not creating many chances as opposed to missing them.

Fact of the matter with United is that this is just football.

It comes in cycles of success, only a few teams have just spent money to gain success (Chelsea springs to mind) most are built on solid foundations that take years to pull fruit from and die off quickly.

United were spoiled for so many years having the absolute crème of the crop of a manager and also the guy working above him (name escapes me) and their success never died off. They just regenerated teams and kept moving forward - seems to be being modelled brilliantly across the city now too.

Welcome to real football though, where winning trophies is absolute graft and bad seasons are more common place than good.

Yeah, that is my only comfort. That one day, we'll all be laughing at City again.

For those that have an interest in Saudi money. This is an interesting read.
Draw your own conclusion, but for me. A couple of places in the champs league will be the least they are looking for.

It’s been an open secret for awhile that the Saudis are looking long term after their oil runs out , and given that sport especially football generates billions it’s not surprising they are doing so.

I think the champs league will look very different in a few years they will do the equivalent to LIV in golf set up their own tournament with the big European clubs jumping at the chance to join the two founding members Man City and Newcastle.

In order to legitimately get the Saudis in, could UEFA try and work with the other continental bodies. Change the Champions League into a World Club League (getting rid of the gimmicky World one they have now). So, instead of having rubbish European Clubs like Celtic in the Champions League ;), they could have slightly less European Teams, but then have about 4 teams from South America, 2 from North America, 4 from Africa, 4 from the Middle East, 4 from Asia and 2 from Oceania

There would be some long travel distances there, but if there is a lot of money involved, I'm sure it won't be a problem to the governing bodies
