That must be it. He was so heartbroken that he figured nothing matters anymore. Might as well go get his blood money.

It is funny listenting to the various pundits at the moment who were willing to rant against the Qatar world cup for various human rights and other issues but are now trying to justify players taking similar sourced money to play in Saudi.

It's the part where they say it secures the futures of their family. Geez, these guys have been earning millions all of their careers. Unless they use £20 notes instead of logs on the fire they should be secure many times over. This isn't the old days where players have to find new jobs after finishing. If they want to go, be honest about it.

I guess it is more to how much training time they lose and the impact of jet lag etc. I have travelled first class (using up air miles) on a flight over 12 hours and yes, it is more comfortable but it is still being cooped up in a tin can with limited space to move around etc and I did not feel 100% for a few days after.
The training time can't be that significant. They have about a month of pre-season, so a few extra hours in a plane and a bit of jet lag is probably not going to cause too many issues.

Just had a look at where the PL clubs are going pre-season. Going to the USA are Arsenal (who also go to Germany), Villa (who also go to Spain), Brentford, Brighton, Chelsea, Palace, Fulham, Man Utd and Newcastle. Liverpool are off to Singapore, Man City to Japan and South Korea, Spurs to Australia, Thailand and Singapore and West Ham to Australia. So, looks like 13 of the clubs have long journeys to make.

Think only Luton are not leaving the UK, with their most exotic trips to Sheffield and Birmingham. Even Wolves are off to sunny Ireland.

The suggestions this morning were that they would be using it to build schools and hospitals in their community (this being about an English player) .

Apparently Henderson is off to Saudi now. At least we won't have to put up with him clogging up the England team anymore. Cheerio.

Henderson going to Saudi is poor but why won’t he be with England anymore ?

Southgate picked players that weren’t played in the Prem so why will he not picked Henderson anymore ?

If for no other reason than, with the opinions expressed by the team and mangement during the Qatar world cup, you would think it would be a bad look to then select players who have taken the Saudi money.

lol, seriously? A 33-year-old playing in a joke retirement league? Southgate won't even be watching let alone picking him. He picks players who play in top leagues like Germany or Spain but not a league where every team has one or two marquee players and the rest of them are non-league standard.

He shouldn't be picking him regardless he's got far better options now with depth to back them up.

Yet he picks plays that don’t play at all 🤷‍♂️

Didn’t he pick Maguire and Phillips who spent most of the season on the bench or not even in the squad

Of course Southgate will still be watching if he feels he still wants him as part of the squad

If Kane went there would he still pick him

Holiday isn't pre season though is it? Pre season is back to work, back to training.

No idea, in terms of your next question. I've done long haul in cattle class and it was very draining and fairly unpleasant. No question it is easier in 1st or business but flying in itself drains me so even 1st class would take something out of me I reckon.
It’s not really the journey it’s the time zone that messes with your rhythms.

Not playing for Man City beats playing in Saudi Arabia. At least Phillips has proper opposition in training every day! I can only see Henderson declining rapidly if he moves over there. 33 years old and not being tested at all except on the random week he plays against Kanté.

Kane wouldn't go there and he is a hundred times more important to the team than Henderson so not sure what point is being made there.

you said he wouldn’t pick Henderson because he isn’t playing in the top league

So if Kane went there he wouldn’t pick him going by your logic

And he also picks players that don’t play at

So the simple fact is if Southgate feels he still has a part to play in the squad he will pick him - just like he continued to pick players who weren’t even playing in any competitive matches regularly

Plus Phillips and Maguire still aspire to be good enough to make the first team. I think Henderson has sent a clear message about his ambition and aspirations...improving his bank balance.

I was talking specifically about Henderson. He was scraping the England squad because he played for Liverpool. Now that's not the case he will be forgotten about. Hopefully anyway!

I know you were talking about Henderson and your theory appeared to be that a player goes to Saudi they won’t be picked for England because they are not playing in a top league hence why I asked you would the same apply to Kane or indeed any player that left to go there - which is consistency

Or are you saying that Henderson won’t get picked because you don’t think he is good enough - so it doesn’t matter what league he is - which is a different matter and will again be subjective

Facts show though that Southgate doesn’t follow conventional methods and will who he wants to regardless of what the players situation is if they are fit - so if Southgate still feels he brings something to the team he will be picked

Most players yes. Henderson, definitely, because his career is effectively over. Kane was a stupid example from you because he's obviously world class so that would be an exception.

I can't believe you honestly think Hendo should be anywhere near the England team while slumming it in Arabia so you must be trolling at this point. The Championship is a higher level and there are plenty of English players there. The point is not whether he is or isn't good enough - 1. He obviously thinks he's no longer good enough to play at the highest level or he wouldn't be going there. 2. Even if he was good enough, you wouldn't be able to tell for sure because he'd be playing against fourth rate players. You need to be playing in a high level of competition to prove that you're good enough to be picked.

And this is all hypothetical as he hasn't even moved yet, I don't think.

Hope he can get his career back, poor fella really did hit rock bottom
