Baresi was the greatest defender I’ve seen, any referee from any era.
I made the point as Baresi was a great defender but also an absolute master of the dark arts when you could get away with them. Harder to judge in the current era, with var etc. Bobby Moore for example was a clean defender, obviously made fouls but wasn't sneaky, and var wouldn't have affected him. Italian defenders of the 70's and 80's............

I’ll choose Paul McGrath. Often remembered for missing matches, and training, due to recurring knee injuries(and the odd beer) his appearances by season show he played plenty of football. He wasn’t just a central defender, occasionally moved into midfield. Though hard as nails he also possessed excellent skills on the ball. He certainly proved on the international stage he was well capable of playing against the top strikers of his era.

VVD before his injury , Maldini

I’ll definitely agree with VVD pre-injury but one swallow doesn’t make a summer. Would love to see him back at that level.

Maldini; if there’s one thing that lifted him above so many of his contemporaries it’s his footballing brain. I’ve never seen a more intelligent footballer. Maybe not the absolute best in class technically but his reading of the game more than compensated.

Well I wouldn't put in any of the west ham or palace defenders based on today

Not even half time yet 3-2

Palace letting in 2 corners west ham defending like idiots 3 times but then to be fair zaha Is back and he is on fire

Will add zouma got injured in the 1-1 goal.. not saying palace don't deserve it they do but those 2 goals then came from his side .. moving aguard over killed it.. game plans gone

Plus aguard passing to soucek would never happen with zouma on as zouma would be passing it and would have gone long thus no 3rd goal

Massive butterfly affect

Var just backs up poor officials now

Not even contact made there

Dunno who's a worse diver, zaha, eze, ollise or ayew

The thing is all 4 are fantastic footballers why on earth do they go down like a sack of spuds they have the skill and balance to stay on their feet

Maldini was just class , always seemed to be a step ahead of everyone , that back line of Ac Milan in 07 was superb with him and Nesta

Will be interesting to see how VVD is next season after a good break in the summer , whilst he doesn’t appear as physically strong ad before the injury his reading of the game has also been missing and can’t blame injury for that

Dont worry, theres a panel that looks at any incidents where an official has been conned and the offenders will be retrospectively punished.

That's the worst kind of punishment. Like when agureo got banned for stamping on one of ours

Means nothing. Doesn't affect our game
Is this you getting ahead with "he wasnt any good anyway" when he joins one of the big boys?

He is good enough by miles. He just has checked out

He plays well against big clubs and Europa as he wants to win a trophy

Other than that he going through motions

Awful captain choice
