Yes he is but given where Childwell is that’s harsh.
Hes so far in the box he’s nearly offside:eek:
Well, both teams were encroaching. Can't give them both a free kick, nor can you just ignore the rule. So, the player who touches the ball is penalised. Definitely don't see it as harsh, he only has himself to blame.

He made a mess of the penalty.
as you say both teams encroaching so don’t give anything just carry on.

Thought Chelsea deserved the win defended very well.
Sterling couldn’t finish his dinner should have had a hat trick.
bit disappointed with .dortmund toothless up front.

I'm not sure you'd say to carry on if it fell to an encroaching Chelsea player, who then scored :)

Hmmmm... Bale and Ronaldo both played right wing when they were in the Prem. 😯 Although their greatest achievements came after they left I suppose.
You could argue they are both better players to have played in that position whilst in the league, but he’s done it for much longer than them. So is the best Imo

I guess it depends how you define "great". If I was asked to define my greatest / favourite Man Utd player in the PL era, I'd probably look at players like Keane, Scholes, Giggs and Rooney, given what they gave for so many seasons. Almost like giving a player a rating out of 100 each season, and adding up all the scores for all seasons, and see who comes out on top.

However, if I was to simply pick an all star PL team of Man Utd players, which could feature anyone that has played for Utd, even for 1 season, and based on performances for Utd, then Ronaldo would probably be the first player on my list. He was absolutely sensational for the last few seasons at Utd, so much so that the rest of Europe almost had no choice to vote him as the best player in the world (PL often seems to be overlooked in such awards). In that sense, he would get my vote for the greatest Man Utd player in the PL era.

P.S. to Orikoru, I thought Bale typically played on the left, not the right. Certainly on the left that night he tore Inter Milan to shreds.

Yeah I was having that exact debate myself. Bale and Ronaldo went on to be better, but Salah could definitely be the best to have physically played in the Prem at his peak, for the longest as you say.

Well, he broke through in the kind of 4-4-2 era under Redknapp, as a left back of course. When he first hit the headlines he had simply been pushed forward into left midfield when Assou-Ekotto came back in at left back. After Redknapp's departure AVB came in and started playing Bale in almost a free role so he would frequently pop up on the right hand side and cut in to shoot, hence why he was unbelievable and scored so many goals in his last season with us. Once he went to Madrid he mainly played off the right, since Ronaldo was doing the opposite and playing off the left.

Bale was great but Salah's done it longer, scored more, assisted more and in percentage terms - in less games.

He's actually outscored Bale by miles.

Ronaldo - one of the best of all time, but his astonishing form came at Madrid - Also still less Goals, Assists than Salah in more apps.

Salah for me all day.

I can see the merits in that (picking best 11 if they were to play), but I’d argue Salah exceeded Ronald’s best PL season anyways, He certainly had more goals and assists in his best season.

there is a toss up between a one off year and an consistent player too. As you’ve quoted him I’ll say for me, giggs gets nowhere near the starting 11 if picking best ever and using their best season as the reason, but would agree that he’s accrue lots of points in your longebitty theory.

It is the unwinnable argument. If either of us were selecting a team, I'm sure we'd have differences all over the pitch. I think in Salah's best season, he had 32 goals in 36 appearances, Ronaldo 31 goals in 34 appearances. Difficult to choose between them from the stats. I guess it also depends on the types of players they had around them, how willing they were to "serve" the main goalscorer by doing more of the grafting, and how much they would sometimes take the responsibility themselves to score. Both players has a couple of good forwards with them, that worked well together. How the manager sets the team up, and many other factors.

If I was to pick my all time 11, playing 4-3-3, I'd probably go:

Keeper: Schmeichel
Left Back: Cole (I want to pick Irwin or Evra, but trying to talk myself out of man U players as much as I can)
Right Back: Neville
Centre Backs: Rio Ferdinand, VVD (was going to pick Terry, but to much history with him and Rio's brother)
Defensive Midfield: Roy Keane (maybe have Kante as back up)
Midfield: Gerrard, Scholes (I'll happily have De Bruyne on the bench, and just rotate between the 3 as form dictates)
Right Forward: Ronaldo (Salah as back up)
Left Forward: Henry (Bale as back up)
Striker: Kane (Rooney as back up, was going to pick Shearer but I think I need a Rooney or Kane to gel better with the other forwards. Shearer probably better in a team that wants him to be the key goalscorer)

However, I also fully appreciate I could pick from a list of 100 different players, and the team would be immense.

It really is an impossible task. Not going to argue with anyone you've suggested, but it's tough to leave Vieira out of the midfield. And I'd maybe go with Vidic & Terry at the back. I wasn't a huge Rio fan, I felt he relied on his pace a lot and got found out when he was older and lost some of it.
